The relationship between Sin City and Nashville is about to get even chummier through the first-ever Sunset Songwriting Festival, featuring some of Music City’s finest tunesmiths. Thanks to Aaron Benward (formerly of Blue County), Las Vegas has already been getting a weekly dose of Nashville through his in-the-round songwriters night, Nashville Unplugged. The Sunset Songwriting Festival is his attempt to take it to the next level.
Aaron and Nashville Unplugged have partnered with songwriting community SongTown to launch the festival, which will give attendees an immersive three days in the songwriting profession. Slated for Oct. 9-11, 2015 at the Sunset Station Hotel in Las Vegas, the Sunset Songwriting Festival will feature Nashville hitmakers Clay Mill (Darius Rucker’s “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”), Travis Howard (“Famous in a Small Town,” “Heart Like Mine”) and Marty Dodson (Billy Currington’s “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right”).
In addition to live performances, the Sunset Songwriting Festival will also offer attendees the chance to network with some of music’s top supervisors from Los Angeles and feature an array of development workshops to enhance the skill of songwriting.
“A songwriting festival in Las Vegas has been a dream of mine since we started Nashville Unplugged six years ago,” Aaron tells Nash Country Weekly. “We are bringing some of the most successful songwriters as well as industry professionals to Sunset Station for the first ever Sunset Songwriter Festival. Aspiring songwriters or artists will also have an opportunity to showcase their music for people in the music business who can truly make a difference in their career.”
The Sunset Songwriting Festival is open to the public, and will offer four ticket packages to choose from. A complete lineup of hit performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
Submissions to perform at the Sunset Songwriting Festival are being accepted through Aug. 25, 2015. For more information, visit sunsetsongwritingfestival.com.
