The Mtomeni Wilderness Trail situated on the Letaba Ranch, a Big Five reserve north of Phalaborwa, offers you the unique opportunity of getting closer to nature than ever. Bordering the Kruger National Park with an unfenced boundary, the reserve is home to elephant, buffalo and African wild dog, among others.

You and your group will be based at the scenic Mtomeni Camp on the banks of the Great Letaba River. The Mtomeni Wilderness Trail runs out of the camp and, accompanied by an experienced guide and armed ranger, you’ll embark on a combination of full-day, morning or evening walks, clocking up an average of 12km a day.

Explore the river banks, as well as the mopani veld to the south of the river and revel in the unspoilt surroundings.

The focus of the Mtomeni Wilderness Trail is careful, quiet walking at an enjoyable pace to maximise your opportunities to interact with, but not disturb, nature. Frequent stops allow for queries and discussions.

Your accommodation is in twin-bed safari tents on wooden decks, shaded by jackalberry trees, after which the camp was named, with a simple en-suite flush toilet, basin and bucket shower. As there is no electricity, paraffin or solar lanterns are provided.

The communal kitchen, dining and campfire facilities have views over the river, allowing you to watch game coming to quench their thirst.
