General Summary

Unum is seeking to add an experienced Storage Engineer to focus in Open Systems environment(s). This rolewill join a high-performance, telecommuting team with shared goal of ensuring required levels of performance, availability and recoverability while maximizing value of storage environment to meet corporate objectives. This position requires the passion and talent to find optimal ways of exposing storage services through emerging hybrid cloud model(s) including two enterprise data centers.

Designs and implements storage solutions based on business partner requirements and opportunities for continuous improvement

Provides leadership results to ensure continued progress in on-going transition from legacy models of backup and recovery (backup clients, physical tape, etc)

Participates in technical discussions with application and business partners to represent storage throughout project planning process

Delivers ongoing administration, maintenance, security, and availability of storage infrastructure while adhering to tight operational models

Provides a high level of technical expertise across multiple storage technologies from multiple vendors

Performs advanced troubleshooting and resolution of problems to include 7×24 on call

Determines performance and availability baselines; develop and implement actions to resolve unfavorable trends before they impact production

Assists in developing and rolling out storage management methodologies and automation

Supports security, development and production support efforts across the organization as needed

Works with other engineering disciplines to develop shared infrastructure solutions, roadmaps and plans

Technical Requirements

The qualified candidate will have 5 years of increasingly responsible experience selecting, implementing and supporting for storage solutions to include virtualization and data replication components. The candidate must have proven expertise in providing design, implementation and Level 2/3 support of at least one enterprise backup software with preference for IBM TSM Unified Recovery Suite. The candidate must have proven success with coming up with innovative yet effective solutions and presenting these options to application and business partners. Technical Knowledge should include most of the following:

Enterprise storage arrays (IBM, EMC, HDS) to include SSD

Storage virtualization (IBM VCS/SVC a plus)

Storage optimization (de-duplication, auto-tiering, compression, thin provisioning, etc.)

IBM TSM Unified Recovery Suite, preferred or other Enterprise Backup/Recovery Software

IBM TSM for Virtual Environment

Fiber channel director-class switches (Brocade or Cisco)

Brocade Fabric Manager

IBM ProtecTIER VTL

IBM ATL tape libraries (TS3500)

Host-side connectivity including VMWARE, VDI and IBM mainframe

SRM software such as IBM TPC

Remote site storage replication

Enterprise NAS, file services/hosting experience a plus

Automation and/or orchestration tools

Willingness to manage a 24x7x365 storage and backup environment including on-call rotation, weekend work, etc.
