The Corona del Mar High School and Middle School PTAs will hold their first general meeting of the 2013-2014 school year Wednesday morning, where new principal Kathy Scott and other new staff will be introduced.

The meeting will take place in the big gym at 9 a.m., according to the meeting’s agenda. Newport-Mesa Unified School District Superintendent Fred Navarro will attend along with new principal Kathy Scott.

Scott was selected this summer to replace former principal Tim Bryan, who resigned in July; read our earlier stories here and here.

The school’s new drama teacher, Jackie Colgate, also will be introduced, the agenda states. Colgate replaced Ronald Martin, who resigned over the summer following being placed on administrative leave last spring related to an ongoing police investigation into allegations of battery of a student; read our stories here and here.

New teachers Emily James and Jennifer Yennie, both English teachers, and Allison Fletcher, a language arts teacher, and Kareem Captan, a history teacher, also will be introduced.

The meeting also will include discussions of the annual CdM Home Tour and volunteer opportunities.

In a welcome email, PTA President Sue Ellen O’Connor said the new year would be particularly exciting with a new administrator.

“Mrs. Scott brings a wealth of impressive administrative and teaching experience to our school,” O’Connor wrote. “Her most recent position was the Principal of Oxford Academy. During her tenure, Mrs. Scott led Oxford Academy to a top raking in both the state of California as well as the United States. I know everyone is looking forward to meeting and welcoming her to our community.”

The Wednesday meeting is for the high school and middle school PTA, but there will be a separate Corona del Mar Middle School PTA meeting at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 in the small gym.
