Cardinal Red with Sandalwood interior 1970 GTO Convertible with the 400CID and 400 Turbo Hydramatic Trans. Finished frame-off restoration in May 2012. Options include A/C, power disk brakes, power steering. Owner added factory available options rear air foil, formula wheel and hood tach. Convertible top is Sandalwood in color, not white or black. Have won several local awards including best of show awards. Cruising topless is what it’s all about!

I built “Tunnel Rat” in 2011 as a retirement gift to myself. It is painted Hot Rod Black with a satin clear coat and Red, White, and Blue pin striping. The wheels, coil over springs, pedals, and grill insert are powdercoated in “Dormant Red Metalic” (a two stage powdercoat). Power is from a Chevy 355 CI crate engine dyno’d at 375 HP and
400 FPT. I used Sanderson headers with only baffles. Trans is a build 350 automatic and rear is a 4.11 posi in a Currie 9″ rearend. Tires are big and little Pro Street radials from Hoosier tires. Since it only weighs in at
1600 lbs, there is plenty of power for some real fun. My wife and I love cruising and going to car shows. I have dedicated “Tunnel Rat” to all my fellow Veterans and yes that is what I did in Viet Nam. Have a good day and thank you for your consideration.

I grew up working on cars with my dad and we both said some day we would build one together. My dad passed away before we could do that. I stopped going to shows and working on cars, because I couldn’t stop thinking about my dad. Finally 7 years after he passed my wife said its time to go to a car show and we did. After we went to the show (which was very hard to do) I told my wife we are buying a car in memory of Dad. This car has filled a hole in my heart.

Our ride, fondly called Eleanor was purchased at an auction in 2013. She was a nice barn find in need of a lot of TLC. Her body, chassis and motor (flat head six) are all original equipment with 63,000 miles on it. My husband and I have spent many hours cleaning Georgia mud from the underside, painting the engine and doing a few minor repairs.
Her interior however needed some new interior especially the door panels and carpet. I took out my trusty sewing machine and we re-did the interior ourselves. The headliner is still original but looking pretty good other than being old and discolored but it gives her more character. The picture chosen is her first day out with her new Coker tires.

I purchased the truck in March of 2003 after my wife discovered it for sale on the street. She stated her father owned a ’56 Truck that was white that she had fond memories of. The truck was in bad shape and needed a frame up restoration which I did all the work in my garage with the exception of the bench seat (some things are left to the pros). The engine is a Ford 289 with modifications to add horsepower. Transmission is a C4. I wanted to stay with the original theme of the truck. The interior has the original bench seat and gauges. The front suspension stills has a straight axle but was replaced with a MoDrop axle and reverse eye leaf springs. The rear is stock with flipped axle and a 9 inch Ford rear end. The truck has four wheel disc conversion. I ran the plates on the truck during the project and discovered the truck was manufactured in October of 1956. My birthday is October 1956. The truck is a joy to drive for a cruise or occasional car show.
