Employment of construction professionals is projected to grow by 25% from 2012 to 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, www.bls.gov, Washington, D.C.

In an effort to meet the growing demand for qualified professionals and provide flexible access to career advancement opportunities, Pearson, www.pearson.com, New York, N.Y., is collaborating with NCCER, www.nccer.org, Alachua, Fla., a not-for-profit education foundation created by the construction industry, to provide digital learning resources for NCCER’s online courses through the newly enhanced NCCERconnect platform.

Six new courses were recently released via the NCCERconnect platform, and more than 15 additional courses will be released in the fall.The NCCERconnect courses help students assess and improve their knowledge. NCCER has provided the construction industry with standardized training and credentialing since 1996. By obtaining NCCER credentials, learners may increase their odds of securing a job once they graduate, and can potentially earn higher pay.

Through the collaboration, Pearson provides curricula for more than 70 craft areas offered at more than 4,000 NCCER-accredited training locations worldwide. NCCERconnect includes digital content for 10 areas of study, including Core Curriculum, which provides foundational training for craft professionals, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and welding.

Using Pearson’s online, homework, and tutorial technologies, NCCERconnect provides a flexible and convenient learning experience, with access to supplemental content such as eBooks, embedded multimedia, as well as instructor tools. Students learn at their own pace, while instructors are able to monitor student progress and communicate with their students to keep them engaged and accountable for their work.
