Connectivity in construction is key, which is why technology companies continue to develop new products and partnerships to advance solutions for the industry.

Recently, Iridium Communications Inc., www.iridium.com, McLean, Va., and Appareo Systems LLC, www.appareo.com, Fargo, N.D., announced a partnership to provide advanced telematics solutions enabled with global connectivity to a number of key industries, starting with agriculture and general aviation.

Appareo provides electronic and software solution for manufacturers in the agriculture, aviation, aerospace, and construction industries. The company creates end-to-end solutions that include both mobile and cloud-based components and also provides advanced research services for electro-optic, electromechanical, kinematic, and MEMS (microelectromechanical systems)-based sensors.

The company intends to extend global data connectivity to its customers using Iridium’s satellite networks, with an initial focus on the agriculture and general aviation marketplaces.

Appareo will integrate the Iridium 9603 chipset into its products and solutions for the verticals it serves as part of a long term development and supply agreement with Iridium. The chipset will be compatible with Iridium’s NEXT satellite network, which is scheduled to launch in 2015.

“The accelerating growth of M2M has already resulted in a transformative effect across a variety of industries,” says Bryan Hartin, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Iridium.

Iridium’s NEXT satellite network will consist of 66 in orbit satellites and a number of in orbit spares. It is expected to be fully operational by 2017.
