(Bridgeport, Conn./CBS Connecticut) – Changes are on the way in the Bridgeport Police Department.

Mayor Joe Ganim has accepted the resignation of Police Chief Joseph Gaudett.

Gaudett this week accepted the position as consultant for emergency communications for the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Ganim has named police Captain Armando “AJ” Perez as police chief.

Perez has 32 years in the Bridgeport Police Department, most recently overseeing the Bridgeport Violent Crime Reduction Task Force.

He will be the first Cuban American police chief in the state.

There will be a public swearing in ceremony for Perez tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Bridgeport City Hall Council Chambers.
