NEW YORK (CBS Hartford) _ Metro-North Railroad Thursday announced a sweeping series of reforms in response to a federal report that unveiled safety deficiencies.

In the Federal Railroad Administration report “Operation Deep Dive,” 27 actions were detailed that needed immediate attention by the railroad. So far, 14 have been completed.

The overarching theme among the new measures is an over-emphasis on safety being the number one priority and everything else number two.

Put in place: speed reductions, an enhanced employee protection system, quarterly safety seminars for employees, improved train control and cab cameras, better reporting methods and improved track inspection plans.

Connecticut’s congressional delegation and Metro-North official’s will address the report at New Haven’s Union Station Friday morning.
