NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) _ A 19-year-old city man being sought by New Britain police since a city officer was run over and dragged by a vehicle on Wilcox Street has been apprehended.

“Jaheem Snype, who’s wanted by the New Britain Police Department for criminal attempt for murder, assault first degree and assault on police was taken into custody by Vermont state police in Barton, Vt., which is a town just south of the Canadian border,” said New Britain Police Chief James Wardwell in a late Wednesday night press conference.

Wardwell says they had been working with Vermont state police and other law enforcement agencies and the investigation led them to a Frankie Gonzalez, 23, Snype’s half-brother.

Gonzalez when questioned admitted after the fact to involvement in the New Britain incident and provided information about a location nearby where police found Snype, who surrendered peacefully.

Snype and Gonzalez are being held in Vermont as fugitives from justice and will appear in court in Vermont Thursday for extradition.

Officer Brett Morgan remains hospitalized. A fund has been established in his name to help defray medical costs.

Contributions to the Brett Morgan Benefit Fund can be made at TD Bank branches. Checks made out to the fund can be mailed to:
