Galway Bay fm newsroom – NUI Galway is teaming up with a US company to launch a new ‘Smart City’ project for Galway.

The Insight Centre for Data Analytics and Silicon Valley company DEW Mobility will launch the initiative at the ‘Internet of Things’ summer school at NUI Galway in the coming weeks. (13/9)

The Galway Smart City: Light Pollution, Air Quality and Noise Monitoring project was accepted as part of the Global City Team Challenge launched last year by US Ignite and the US National Institute for Standards and Technologies

“Smart City” focuses on the design of external monitoring for air quality, incidence of light pollution, glare and spillage into the surrounding environment and noise levels through smart technologies and the Internet of Things.

Dr Martin Serrano of Insight at NUI Galway says the project will allow the Galway public to actively engage in activities which will help to improve the city environment.
