Local businesses, community leaders and residents from Hidden Hills to Westlake Village wined, dined and danced at the fifth annual The Event in support of the Las Virgenes Unified School District Saturday evening in Calabasas.
Emceed by actor Jerry O’Connell, an LVUSD parent, The Event raises money for The Foundation, an education foundation created to raise funds to help manage class sizes and strengthen the counseling program at all 16 schools in the district. To date, over one million dollars has been raised.
The evening’s festivities, held at the Calabasas Civic Center, included tastings from premier, local restaurants like The Six, La Plata, Olio e Limone Ristorante of Westlake Village and Geoffrey’s of Malibu as well as local wineries and craft breweries. In addition to a silent and live auction, live entertainment was provided by Pine Mountain Logs (aka Venice).
This year’s event was also Certified Zero Waste. The goal of a zero waste event is to divert as much waste from landfills as possible by partnering with sponsors and vendors to ensure that all distributed materials and products are recyclable, compostable or reusable. The sustainable production included the use of compostable leaf plates and wood flatware.
