Hello everybody,
I have problem with my video on last version of Skype on Windows 10 Home x86. Webcam is integrated in HP Pavilion x2 10 tablet (j010nz).
Problem:
If I start Skype video call, it works only about 10 seconds, than there is just blank black screen – on the other side and also in my small preview. There is no problem with other side, I can see her video without any problem, and there is problem only with my video. This happens only in the dark!
Steps to reproduce:
Go to some darker place, not necessary during the night, it happens also during the day with closed blinds.
Start/Accept Skype video call
Video is working now, but there are strange dots (see attached image)
Wait approximately 10 seconds
LED indicator of webcam flashes
Wait less than 1 second
Video is not working anymore (even if you switch on room lights)
How to fix it:
Solution 1:
Go to brighter place
Open Webcam setting in Skype, change anything to different value and then change it back
Video is working fine
Solution 2:
Before LED flashes (Step 5), switch on room lights
LED indicator flashes, but video is working because you are in well lighted place
Solution 3:
Restart Skype and go to brighter place
What is working:
Recording video on any light condition using Microsoft’s Windows 10 Camera application – of course, there is nothing to see, but if I turn on room lights, there is immediately image without restarting anything
There is no problem with Skype video on brigt places
What I think:
There is some problem why Skype restarts webcam after 10 second, I don’t know why
I think this is Skype problem, because Camera application is working at any light condition
Notes about system:
Tablet HP pavilion x2 10, model j010nz – from 2014
Windows 10 Home x86 – original system was upgraded and then I made fresh upgrade with formatting whole storage to clean all data
Drivers are from HP website for Windows 8.1 because there are no drivers for Windows 10 for this model, but everything is working including webcam in Camera app, so I hope this is not driver issue
Windows 10 are fully upgraded from Windows Update
I’m not participating in Windows 10 preview build
Skype version is 7.8.0.102
System is clean, installed yesterday
Antivirus is integrated Defender, Firewall is also integrated from Windows
Note for Windows 8.1:
I was using Metro Skype on Windows 8.1 on this tablet and there was no problem with video, this is probably the first time, when I’m using Desktop Skype on this device.
Thank you very much for any tips and ideas, what would fix this problem – main reason, why I bought this tablet was Skyping in the bed in the evening, so this issue is really bothering me…
