Now that year-end is winding down it is the perfect time to upgrade your Sage BusinessWorks software to the 2015 version. The instructions below will cover everything from how to download the software to how to install it. Upgrading from Sage BusinessWorks 2013? No problem...there is no database update required when moving to Sage BusinessWorks 2015 so the upgrade will be a breeze. To download the current version: Access https://support.na.sage.com Click Login in the top right corner Enter your portal login and password (Please note if you just created a portal login or reset your password it will take an hour for you to have access to the downloads) Click Log on Under My Products choose Sage BusinessWorks (If you do not show My Products select more products… then choose Sage BusinessWorks. Select Downloads For the full product install select the desired version under Product Downloads or Product Updates When the article displays for the appropriate download select either Download Now (uses the Download Manager and may require additional downloads) or Direct Download If downloading via the Sage Download Manager (The download manager allows your to pause the installation and ensures the most complete download) If you have not used the Download Manager before you may be prompted to install the Download Manager Click OK after verifying the location where you would like the download file to go The Download Manager will display If you chose the option to run the file you will be asked if you want to install Sage BusinessWorks If not locate and double click the SageBusinessWorks.exe file to run the installation If Direct Download is selected a message will appear at the bottom of the browser asking if the file should be run or saved. Select the arrow next to Save Choose Save as to select a specific location to download the file to, such as Desktop, otherwise it will default to the Downloads folder Once the installation is complete select Download Sage BusinessWorks xxxx service pack x to download the service pack Click Release Notes link and review the information regarding the service pack When on the download page click the download link and if prompted choose to Save the file (this is normally at the bottom of the screen) select to save the file to your Desktop If a location is not selected the download usually defaults to C:\User\{UserID}\Downloads When the download is complete ensure that everyone is out of Sage BusinessWorks and double click the Service Pack on your desktop For detailed instructions on how to login to the portal and download Sage BusinessWorks view our online tutorial ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAj1EUb_nAk&feature=youtu.be) . Prior to Installation If you use software that imports to or exports from Sage BusinessWorks, contact the third party software manufacturer to verify compatibility before installing this upgrade. A software update is likely required from the software vendor. Note: The Sage BusinessWorks ACT! Link, Crystal Reports and Sage Timeslips have been tested for compatibility. Please see the Sage BusinessWorks System Requirements at http://www.sagebusinessworks.com/Products/System-Requirements for information regarding specific versions supported. Back up each company and the system database. To back up select File, Backup . IMPORTANT - Please make a backup of the System database prior to beginning the upgrade process. Failure to do so may result in a loss of custom forms, users and registration information If upgrading from 2012 or earlier, in all companies, rebuild all modules used in Sage BusinessWorks. The rebuild option is located in each module by selecting Utilities, Rebuild . NOTE – There is no need to rebuild if moving from Sage BusinessWorks 2013 to 2015. At the server check Help, About in Sage BusinessWorks and note the program version and program location (both program and data paths). Close all open programs and have all users exit Sage BusinessWorks and remain out of the program until the entire installation has been completed. Note: If all users have logged out and you are still receiving a message that users are in the program you can disconnect all users by accessing Start, Programs, Sage BusinessWorks, DBRegister. Once in DBRegister select the BWSystem1400 database and click on Users and then Disconnect All Users. Stop all Services that may be running relating to your antivirus software or firewall that could conflict with the Sage BusinessWorks Installation. Other programs that may cause an issue include: IIS Admin Service, Microsoft Exchange System Attendant, Microsoft Exchange Information Store, Microsoft Exchange Message Transfer Agent, Microsoft Exchange Directory, Microsoft Exchange MTA-Stacks, Microsoft Exchange Management Btrieve v7.0 for Windows NT (Server Edition) Scalable SQL v4.0 for NT (Server Edition), MSSQL, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and services related to anti-virus software. For more information on stopping services in Windows visit the Sage Knowledgebase and search for “How to start or stop a service in Windows”. If you are using a terminal server please view the Download Center for the Terminal Server installation checklist. At the server (Log on as the network administrator) Double click the SageBusinessWorks.exe file and select Install Sage BusinessWorks 2015. When prompted to select the location to extract the installation files select the location on your sever where you would like the 2015 installation files to be extracted to. (This is new to the 2015 installation and these files will remain in this location after the installation is complete.) IMPORTANT Please have the primary user of Credit Card information review the information regarding the Sage BusinessWorks 2013 PA-DSS Compliance prior to selecting the link to ‘Install Software’. You must then confirm that you have read the information regarding PA_DSS Compliance by typing INSTALL and clicking OK. The installation files will now extract and the Autorun screen will appear. Click ‘Install Sage BusinessWorks’. During the installation setup verify that the program path and data path match the locations that you noted under step 2 of the section ‘Prior to Installation’. When the installation is complete, click Finish. At the client (Login on as a user that has administrative rights) Run client setup one time at each workstation . Note: Run only one client installation at a time and verify nobody is in Sage BusinessWorks while the installation is running . NOTE: Do not use the Sage BusinessWorks.exe download to install the client. If there is an existing Sage BusinessWorks Icon: Right click on the existing Sage BusinessWorks icon on the desktop Select Properties Click Target... or Find Target... button Double-click Client Setup Folder Double-click Autorun.exe If prompted for an administrator user login and password, enter the Windows network administrator user ID and password (this can be obtained from your Network Administrator.) Confirm that you can launch and access Sage BusinessWorks. Note: Users may receive a registration prompt when launching Sage BusinessWorks for the first time. This registration prompt is for the Sage Support site. If you have not created a login please register for the Sage Support site and change the option to “Never” to remind you about registering. If there is no Sage BusinessWorks Icon: From Windows Explorer, browse to the \\{SERVERNAME}\Sage\BWProg\Client Setup folder on the server. Run Autorun.exe. Follow the wizard to install the Sage BusinessWorks client. If prompted for an administrator user login and password, enter the Windows network administrator user ID and password (this can be obtained from your Network Administrator.) Confirm that you can launch and access Sage BusinessWorks. NOTE: If there are multiple users using Sage BusinessWorks on the same workstation the Profile Setup needs to be performed for each additional Windows user that accesses Sage BusinessWorks at this workstation or server. To run the profile setup go to the \\{SERVERNAME}\Sage\BWProg folder on the server and select bwprofile.exe. The Profile Setup is Windows user specific therefore each user will have to verify that their default custom form and printer settings are correct before printing. Your installation is now complete. After the installation is complete If upgrading from Sage BusinessWorks 2012 or earlier , if the Database update does not display select Start, Programs, Sage BusinessWorks, Database Update and update ALL databases. Important! You must complete this step before you begin working in Sage BusinessWorks. Please make sure that you update the BWSystem1400 database immediately as errors may occur if this is not completed. The Database Updater can take from several minutes to several hours to complete for each company depending on the amount of company data. After the update is complete, launch Sage BusinessWorks and verify that you can access the program. Note: Users may receive a registration prompt when launching Sage BusinessWorks for the first time. This registration prompt is for our online Sage Portal and only needs to be done if the user does not yet have a login. NOTE – No database update will be performed if upgrading from Sage BusinessWorks 2013 to 2015. Once all databases have been updated visit the Sage Support website to download and install the most recent Service Pack. For customers visit https://support.na.sage.com . If you encounter any other errors during the installation process, please note the error and the point at which it occurred. For answers to many of your questions, please check the Knowledgebase: Visit the Sage Support website login page at https://support.na.sage.com Click Login in the top right hand corner and enter your user name and password and then click Login. Note: If you are not a registered user of the Sage Support website, click the Sign Up for a Sage Portal Account link. A registration confirmation will be sent to you shortly after completing the registration. For Partners enter your login information. If you do not have a Partner Portal login please consult with your account’s primary contact. Once logged in select Sage BusinessWorks by clicking Select Product and enter the KB article number or search for the desired information. Common issues: Article 17609: "The Sage BusinessWorks installation originally performed by user xxx on this workstation is version yyy. The installation can only run if the original installation is version zzz" when installing Sage BusinessWorks at the server. Quick resolution – Click Start, Run, Browse to the C:\Sage BusinessWorks 2015 Installation Files\Sage BusinessWorks\Setup.exe. This will put the path “C:\Sage BusinessWorks 2015 Installation Files\Sage BusinessWorks\Setup.exe” in the run command. After the last “enter /noprofile so the run command would be “C:\Sage BusinessWorks 2015 Installation Files\Sage BusinessWorks\Setup.exe” /no profile. Article 17609: "The Sage BusinessWorks installation originally performed by user xxx on this workstation is version yyy. The installation can only run if the original installation is version zzz" when installing Sage BusinessWorks at the client. Quick resolution – Click Start, Run, Browse to the \Sage\BWProg\Sage BusinessWorks\Setup.exe file on the server. This will put the path “ \\{SERVERNAME}\Sage\BWProg\Sage BusinessWorks\Setup.exe ” in the run command. After the last “enter /noprofile so the run command would be “ \\{SERVERNAME}\Sage\BWProg\Sage BusinessWorks\Setup.exe ” /noprofile. Article 18712: “Unable to connect with system manager database, cannot locate the database dictionary bwsystem1400 server xxx, - db: bwsystem1400” when starting Sage BusinessWorks Quick resolution – Reboot the server. For further instructions please see old KB ID 517900 in the knowledgebase. Article 33291: “No writable share” when selecting client data path during server install Quick resolution – Verify the Sage directory on the server is shared with full control for all users under the Permissions option on the Share tab and the Security tab. Article 26872: “Unable to connect with System Manager Database (Unable to get database path (7013: Named database does not exist)” when installing or selecting a company in Sage BusinessWorks Quick resolution – Make note of the company listed in the error message and select Start \ Programs \ Sage BusinessWorks \ DBRegister and see if the company is in DBRegister. If the company is not listed make note of the path of one of the other Sage BusinessWorks Databases like Sample and update the location with that path. For example if BWSystem1400 was missing click NEW ID and type in BWSYSTEM1400 and the location would be \\Server\Sage\BWProg\SYSTEM. Article 18062: Administrator login followed by a 7025 or 7029 error or communication test fails on a client installation Quick resolution – Run a ping and telnet test Verify you can ping the server by name and have it return the correct ip address At a Windows command prompt type ping server name – the server name is the name of your Sage BusinessWorks server Verify the ip address that was returned matches the ip address located in bwserver.ini found in the BWProg folder at the server. Also run an ipconfig at the server by opening a Windows command prompt and typing ipconfig. Verify the address that was returned at the workstation matches the other two. If there are any discrepancies resolve the issues with the ip address and try the installation again. Verify you can communicate to the server through ports 1583 and 3351 At a Windows command prompt type telnet server name 1583 – you should receive a flashing cursor as a response. Any other response could indicate a network issue At a Windows command prompt type telnet server name 3351 – you should receive a flashing cursor as a response.
