Winn had a long 8 to 4 day with me today. He has been sick with strep throat since the weekend, on antibiotics since Monday, so I didn't want him out in the sunlight (which we are finally receiving, with a vengeance). That means we had to stay busy indoors all day long....

He will be 20 months old on Friday, but seems much taller than our kids at that age...maybe taking some height from his father's side, where some of the women are about six feet tall, and one great uncle is 6'5" or so.

For the last couple of weeks, he has been able to reach the space bar on the tiny antique typewriter i had sitting on a dining room sideboard, it is a 1930s vintage Royal portable, which I took put of its case, to use as a message spot. In a way of givng him something new and interesting to do on the aforementioned long afternoon indoors, I asked him if he wanted to use Ma's typewriter.

Oh, YES!!!

We sat it on the den floor, on the soft rug, and he had a time, typing with his toes as well as fingers, and in general figuring out this very complex machine. He really liked the dng when it was timevto return the carriage. His Daddy is a gifted mechanic, and this kid is mesmerized by anything that involves moving parts or tools.

For the $2 I had to bid to get the machine at an estate auction, we got a priceless playtime today. The typewriter has been relocated to his tiny desk in the den, for now.

My next bag of tricks will involve a tiny rolling pin, and some cookie cutters, plus Playdough. I know...i'm nuts!

What's something your kids or grandkids really enjoyed doing, when they were stuck inside on sick days?
