Common Good Books has lined up some great events to help you meet your fellow book lovers on Independent Bookstore Day.
9:00am--Start out Independent Bookstore Day with caffeine or sugar--or both. We’ll be serving up coffee and doughnuts for the first visitors of the day. We’ll also have two pairs of free passes to Nice Ride, so you can visit the other great bookstores in the Twin Cities. Our friends at Moon Palace Books have produced this handy map to help you find them all. Pick up a copy to guide you on your travels.

2:00pm--Join Margaret Aldrich, author of The Little Free Library Book for a walking tour of Little Free Libraries in the neighborhood. Meet other LFL stewards and share your stories; shop for goodies to restock your own LFL at Common Good Books; and get signed, hot-off-the-press copies of The Little Free Library Book.
What started as a simple idea to promote literacy and encourage community has become a movement. Little Free Libraries--front-yard book exchanges--now number more than 20,000 in 75 countries. The Little Free Library Book by Margaret Aldrich tells the history of these charming libraries, gathers quirky and poignant stories from owners, provides a resource guide, and delights readers with color images of the most creative and inspired LFLs around.
4:00pm--Talk about the weather with Mark Seeley. Move beyond “Cold enough for you?” with one of the region’s most respected weather experts.
Mark Seeley is a climatologist and meteorologist at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul and a regular commentator on Minnesota Public Radio. The fully revised second edition of the
Minnesota Weather Almanac takes into account the state’s new thirty- year normals (1981–2010), updating records for cold, heat, and precipitation. In a new chapter on climate change and Minnesota’s future, Mark Seeley draws on decades of observations to show trends and consequences of our changing climate-- and highlights ways for us to adapt and to continue to steward the state’s treasured resources.
