Please welcome Jeff Dwoskin. A comedian from Detroit, Jeff has found a niche in the family humor scene. He has been in @midnight’s Top Ten six times and had tweets featured in Huff Post, Chicago Tribune, and more. We discuss Jeff’s new app Hashtag Roundup, a Twitter hashtag game aggregator. After riffing on pop culture, we talk about hashtagging and the functionality of the app. Jeff discusses the “Maxisms” that Maximüs brings to the conversation.

Back to the topic at hand this is our this is my interview with Jeff to ask him. Jeff is a stand up comedian out of the Troy It is kind of kind of niche and family humor. He’s also a freak for hash tag games and developed hash tag round up an app that aggregates them all to one system. Jeff and I refine a few pop culture topics you know easy target kind of shit but then we can’t get into the hashtags make it make it more fun than just a game like you’re mad with everything on the medic guy right. So I’m going to take it there and we get like where we go with it you know it’s a little too off the wall little too high minded as you probably expect for me anyway so let’s get started. Private jet age if I do a man and this is Max thanks so much for doing our little part just forgot my blazer mac. We were talking a lot. So much is so delicious and pop culture these days and me and Donald Trump of course is running for president again. Although it might be too easy a target. He just keeps Berni and even more. But also John McCain think crazy. Yeah because you know there’s one if there’s one group you want to alienate is people who love war heroes you know what this is going to have I was going to they were going to cover him but in the entertainment section I mean the funniest thing ever. Well yeah. Herman Cain was good but this is like reaching a new level. Right. Almost like trying to like one of the big show of it even more like your like your bit about getting faster to the hospital during when your life and life and when your wife isn’t like are you keeping. Yes it is definitely going to do that a little bit for you talk folks but I’m just saying I like changer calmly perspective like the things that were funny so many seem like absurd or just like too far now like a new line. No I mean I get all my you know inspiration from my family so it’s that’s just the type of a severe over the all over the the board in terms of the types of jokes I did and then working with Marion Hooper Florida in our Michigan and it’s kind of his home to me and say you know to just be the Family Guy that’s who you are. But like it or not that’s got to do. So you know every every every joke I thing is easy it’s true though it’s most usually obscured you know if you exaggerate it and the end becomes not real but there is always something that sort of you know is the germ of the sea a tranny of those jokes. So they become these crazy crazy stories on line that are just too too fake. But it’s because they are based a little bit in reality it is something they are basing it on. It feels good when you hear you know as they get those was the wife I would take it personally with this entire career path she says is a good work she is a she kind of funny if she’s fine watching and she can probably but I think most of that but the you can’t sit with other people that she knows because they can’t hear me talking and just and differentiate between what’s real and I are sitting there because Iran Contra all scenario in that sense I can only imagine like I’m married to having a girlfriend or friends all right there and it just everything just becomes it’s just keeping all of just getting it. But other than that it’s he’s extremely supportive and never actually seen a myth I think they watched the two clips when I’m not around. But but yeah it’s hard to censor You Tube right. That’s all I know it’s it’s impossible. So you said to be careful you put out there I guess I don’t I probably I probably I started as a career as an engineer and I’m guessing that that path was started by getting around the porno filter in my dad’s computer that in trying to like steal movies and like the ninety’s or something so if you can set like the little traps like that it might be a nice way into future expertise. But all of us are at the same time it might also make you a criminal of the F.B.I. So it’s a weird given taking that little realm you know that is interesting to me and that’s more maxim. This actually is a fun drum for me because I’m losing friends because they’re all becoming family men right. So now I’m having to learn to like relate to like the kids and stuff. So I hope this helps you know in these little things that are completely horrible advice for out of raise kids from a guy doesn’t know shit about it and yeah it’s hard when your friends are married and have kids and now those dynamics change. Misty pretty lonely if you only have to call strangers over the internet once a day just to say hey tell me about your day for an hour. We’re going to publish this online and here for you back on the real hunger and such a wonderful family from all across the world standing there and having their hearts and the right person into highly on Twitter. I had I’ve had to learn that because apparently if you’re if you’re in media that’s your portal to the rest of the universe to it is awesome. Yeah to us my life on it. The Actually the I mean app games that’s a good way to get into to it or a lot of fun with easy I had a religious upbringing so when Chris Hardwick a part of the game for what was it called problems I was like Oh this can be good so I was like really specific details but like Jehovah’s Witnesses and everyone else and Everyone’s I think everyone is kind of mean and well there’s tons of games ago I bet. But a mind fish that hash tag game that and the hashtag game so we build an app that kind of close together kind of just north of forty games during the week. In addition aside from Chris Hardwick When you. Mentioned but the. So that’s something that we do called hash tag roundup Ashleigh ground up it’s cool actually so just like a very convenient way to access whatever is on the next game. Yeah there’s some they have they haven’t throughout the day. We have hosts and then there’s that run stuff weekly and then there’s some random stuff that just pops up that if we had a computer I can add it in. But yeah just the idea the app is that I love playing these games. And so but I always missed you know because I didn’t know they were when they were going on so the idea that is it actually buzzes your phone when a game starting I don’t get it right at the prime time right so that’s they all see your sentences for you go get it right and you can tweet from the app or you know you can tweet however you want the idea is to have a sum game a vacation in it you know to to make it fun to use but you know however you play on Twitter whatever mechanism you know it’s a call to action to just get all these folks playing the game same time because like you said you know some of this through other Chris Hardwick one which is everyone’s kind of sitting there at the same time said stuff and you know it’s once it has to go as you know when you’re playing with ASH people are searching the hashtag but just because somebody you know follow somebody when you search the hash tag you know everybody comes up now it’s a great way that I think is a great way to check it out I love you check it out. Yeah yeah yeah. But some pics of him trying to play those more often. You said you were game of on your own out for you like leveling people up or whatever the case from the you know the idea is to encourage you will use the app obviously you want I want people to stay in the air and games but the you know so that is. So you can never love you started to hash you work up an alternate warrior you know there’s something called Golden hashtags so you can if you know a word somebody that you like their tweet in addition to favorite Inger E. tweeting and stuff like that that is a kind of hones down and makes Twitter a little more excessive all for folks in this way so you can kind of a lot of people don’t know what to do with Twitter. And so this kind of says well here if you want to just do this which is a great thing the most who will do you know you can kind of just grab this app and it kind of takes on to your interest in the vastness of Twitter away and hones it down. OK great. And increase these games which which are agreeing aren’t very you know they’re all one voters and you know works in pop culture and you know it’s everybody gets a chance to be funny you know. So it’s really it’s it’s great it’s you know I was a lot of money. OK maybe we should launch like a game with a sub so it comes out like it was like a challenge to the world from the show page would be the would be the appropriate one for this conversation. And as a very large and we’re going to think that something about you need a hug. Oh yeah. Hash tag has to be single in your thirty’s problems or something like that. It’s not quite up by lonely because I’m lonely because that’s the taste let me get it right. The one of a sound a little bit mean so that everything that I see this only becomes Crow it’s like a personal challenge to me so I can eventually learn to this whole I have a cold expert exterior to the entire public as opposed to taking it all in and feeling the criticism of those who are unable to hash tag. I’m a lonely because you are a man. I mean he has said pod cast through the loneliness. Yes that’s true that’s true of it’s kind of related. OK we’re coping mechanisms and with that that’s good. Oh we’re all like All right well I’m sure you can add a tag or later we’ll figure out which one hundred S. We’re going to Syria taking over. We’re going to break the internet. Kim Kardashian just got man’s like she’s about to do this and then the Hobbit now. You saw South Park. Come on man. She. Yeah interesting. Yeah I can kind of ash and I think I think and are under but they were in the boat but the disco weird after that. When I see anything that’s going to go where they stick it in do you jump the shark with I think. I think so but I also love that you know clearly we represent today a post-feminist society if we can create amazing bit of fame and amazing fame and talent out of people starting their careers porn stars you know like so accepting of culture to be able to take that allow them to own that aspect and go make a career from it it’s a real real accomplishment I guess. Way to go society. It did end up in Paris. They came turned it into something you know because it is a real I’m sure made an impact you know turn that whole thing but it’s show and you know she turned Bruce Jenner. That’s right now. He got his career going again. Gotta get him to finally be in touch with who he is and sign it sounds like she didn’t even know you know he was great interview or not. The speech that Diane. So I didn’t see vs an acceptance speech but the the Paris didn’t have that she didn’t have the family supporters. You know hear much about her beyond that. The Phantom of the family was belittling her image right. Well right. She’s just you know she kind of just disappears in a good sized a couple songs you know they’re on my next table the Besides and or well I sometimes think though that Kanye and I can be by by marrying just a reality star Justin C. and and next but that’s just me but it strikes me as like different things Conyers got a weird perspective on things right. Like an artistic talent not included in one of mentioning but like freaking out of the awards shows like fixating on really little but particular things you know from that perspective you can almost see like compression as like this. This culmination of what accomplishment would be right. And now you want to after it it’s just I guess it’s kind of resolve the plot line right. Kind of just a deeper thesis than I want every one of the man is that came crashing Conrad I bless you for four and I think you’ve given the world a Gift. But the friends. Yeah it’s over. It’s not it’s not fun anymore and that’s part of the problem. What do you think some comes from like in general like what was compression is a product that just latched into people do you think. Well I think I don’t know she was a early on but I mean if we can blame Brian Ryan Seacrest for most of this he was on that he’s been a person who’s a parent ashen child but I don’t I just I think is that it’s a whole horrible lawyer thing that the whole everybody seems to be into these I can’t I don’t watch reality programs. Or I mean I did write I mean I watched Survivor before I was and was he right. So it wasn’t a bandwagon now this is critical before you suddenly realized it was really fake and then I kind of I realized like I realized it was weird you know the programs are weird I went to try out for Last Comic Standing I think of the season to whatever season JOHN SAFRAN one was that season and I went to Florida and you know I was sitting around and I had had I was you know I was going to be able to just walk in but the guy I was meeting with who knew the name of the guy missed the plane went inside to wait for hours in line because I didn’t really know who to even ask for. And and so when you’re sitting we are sitting in line people were talking about the people they were going to make it in the house and they everyone they said already made it in the house when you were waiting in line to our decision right. This person is in this room and they were all right and then a member like my buddy made it that night show you know if you watch a show they they pick you know twenty and five of those move on or something right. And so we were sitting there and they’re rumors flying around there was this guy Buck he’s in his book star and apparently he had been in every episode and tried to get in every episode and this is now the final episode and I’m standing right next to him and I’m watching him be told that he just made it into cause parents and then the producers not being happy with how that call went and so they talked to the Father and he gave it back you know he do to get it right at this point I don’t know the context of the story or anything. I was wondering what it would look like and then you later learned it was like this whole Phoenix through all those beginning at the So it was just you know and wanted to manipulate that. At that that phone call. In trying to get the viruses on the make him cry or you know just something but I mean they did it two or three times you know and I was just like oh my God this is where reality T.V. is not real. And but it was and you my and I How long ago that was just one perspective. I can get all of the guy because I didn’t have cell phones. OK So as I was before I even had now to be ridiculous right you just would call somebody it was like before the i Phone exists back that we had and have a cell phone so it’s gone that way to you know least a decade and then but yesterday it was crazy there was it was very upsetting. And then they started crying and they started changing the name sort of how they started changing wrestling when people started you know there was a real scripted reality or some like that or assisted reality they are now. Assisted reality. That’s funny. So actually no I think that would just be the genre of like Honey Boo-Boo where you have like extreme obesity or stupidity and there’s just a through life aided by the narrative of reality. Yeah. By the worse is like Dance Moms My kids were obsessed with it but now even they are sick of it. This is horrible and I did I was addicted to the Jenna Six and modeling agency once for like a little bit and then like that so you had like rock bottom because it a friend’s house I was in our friends’ houses like one the morning it was like nothing on you watch it and you just get sucked in and then it’s so stupid. What do you think of the effect of seeing the entire path of reality television and being right there as like as a spectator for the entire thing. How do you feel changed. Having been through that process and I’ve had a life that’s come out of it stronger. Max Max effort to finally. Whether our way back into the actual reality around here. Just the good perspective and know that what you’re watching is manipulated. So it’s I just can’t get into it anymore which is probably good for saving as a you know they make less good T.V. shows now because those things are filling up too many thoughts. You know when I hear the you know the house wires and all those kind of things so ridiculous and you know people just and all shows are as you watch it for five minutes and then all right and then there’s a preview of what’s going to come next or the commercial version and they show that same pretty rate is only six minutes but it just and everywhere. Parts of it the whole time you know so there was no the issue. OK there’s an opportunity here. OK now that we’ve deconstructed like the form of the Housewife show like that if you see that video they made on Adult Swim. Too many cooks here. Yeah I only got thirty minutes and goodbye. Yeah but it is exactly how it just keeps keeps keeps going and like so we can do this like the lead in and then refreshed of what happened as like the metal breakdown of reality really deserves that I mean they named themselves a reality. What happens when they start getting real. Right right right. Yes the animal and the also everything has to be like ten layers meadow for me to enjoy it you know. So like too many coaches like to because Boehner I never got a special because I didn’t even advertise the just put on four am and vote Marshall timeslot it was it was really funny and to really realize it never ends. The longest thing but I’ve mentioned we were in Atlanta a local I know a local improv theater put on. Unlike a celebrity show for a fundraiser. And in it they had too many cooks. The musical that was authorized in the characters and apparently they all got like individual like singing numbers until the murderer came in like slay them all of and he goes to do his song and it comes out as like the most terrifying sound possible as black and red lights flashing in front of everyone’s eyes. So I went static to his name was like static or whatever yeah. Yes Well you’re right it’s down there now that I take it too far into that to the dark side. So the sticking with the family humor today Max. So let’s keep the keep the breakdown of reality down to other things like Netflix you know stared out of all you know and I want to leave them alone so long I enjoyed it but some of the evidence an hour episode is LONG Yeah it is I hate how you don’t actually have to hold to a time limit on Netflix like some because it’s all on demand so you can have an extra or five minutes more or less whichever one you want you know. Yes but it will ruin they runed Arrested Development season four by not sticking to the end they had for those who are now Season three and season three you know it was for they had three on T.V. that was on they were all got British or something. Yes yes yes yes it was there was a very specific pattern to those shows they demand that twenty five minutes that they had and kind. I didn’t like it at all when they brought back season four and I was a biggest fan though when you really watch Arrested Development and I mentioned say this if you really watch Arrested Development a clearly. Series from season one is perfect and then you know two and three you can see it’s getting warmer. I mean when you look back because I wanted to catch me as I had my fifteen year old she watched it and I might watch it straight from the beginning and I had to tell her it Season four takes place fifteen years later and Nic was there as I got a name get it like I was different and I was like this is this present. Although his son George Michael actually big celebrity mouse. All right all right let’s go not as I know it was found way later she didn’t even get three episodes and it was hard because in the hour they were doing and they never had the casting either they knew they didn’t they didn’t bring them in do you know if that was a big disappointment. Yeah some of the people I think waited this first selling it was very weird in the first few episodes because it was a weird mix of summary of that kind of skipped a lot of steps and then jumped immediately into a drama that didn’t quite make any sense like Michael trying to live with his son inside of a college dorm and things like that I don’t know. Well because it only has so many people are in the same room together any given time so that they’re even had the cast you know they’re all too famous things to Arrested Development Bank exactly how they can reschedule them back together. Banks Arrested Development ruin himself if they tried that that’s important. That is true. Netflix transferred. I just I just binge the hell out of Bo Jack horseman season two and at the talking horse. Yeah I mean seen it and I’ll check it out. It’s what I said. OK so here this is a weird crazy place and there’s a pod casting sub right at the look at now and then it’s not Strong’s community but one guy so I come home kind of drunk I haven’t mastered the release was supposed to do I got out already to to handle anyway. But anyway one guy’s host of the top of freaking out a county to Guest I don’t know how to get through this I’m like What are you doing. He says I record fan commentary of cynical cartoons of them publish it I’m like oh well it’s fun. Which were you doing is like oh Jack horseman I’m like fuck yes right through to stay drunk it is rest of the show for the next hour. It’s great fun. So whoever loves bonus features you know just go to that guy. Cynical cartoons go to that as we franchise in the pod cast world I love the INS trailers in those. Oh yeah yeah yeah very funny the way that we don’t know what are you looking of fun things online right now on this one I was cool Have you seen this video. Cool you never I think like you and I say these things and I like oranges in black Season three. Yeah well I I don’t need to watch this star watching and it’s suddenly just a cell block show in on a man that season one and a very clear story and I like your family and I’m not just saying Brennan seeing today kind of player but now they’ve done now it’s just women in prison and is a women in prison T.V. show which isn’t bad I like the characters and stuff like that but it’s like you know I don’t know it’s a house of cards in the ring and I was OK I was trying to get through was like some strange like this is a drama it was just a normal drama just out there I was like you just drop like what seem to be big plot points you know out of nowhere probably out of boredom but the BE IT WAS A B. everything that was great about you they wanted to do which was like No I mean it was a mark and I yeah yeah and I don’t believe he should be president. I mean I believe you got there are some I was concerned for because like vice presidents who finish someone else’s term of Bens of the most dramatic brutal president ever right. Like namely Teddy Roosevelt nailed it. Right then I go and push an agenda harder than anyone ever did. This president changed the course of the nation’s usually it’s open frank do the same thing he did with John America where and I don’t get to ask her to so much like a love letter to millennial like saying here a politician who speaks to what you like you know between not having jobs and get rid of source security because we can’t afford it. And even all the way back to the president who plays video games online right. Oh yeah. Being and by now if only one of us is a but a lot aren’t that way. This is basically a love letter. Well him at all are you working right now. Yeah I’m working on that. Yeah we’re going to go on into the pro side of the business is like a dollar to download or three. Yeah Iowa Sandra you know I just you know I love parasail games and I want to try and make it easier for people to play in the build a community and you know so that that really the whole idea behind it. What was trending right now on the Twitter verse the amazes trending. And of course I heard five Seconds Of Summer is trending which is great hosting the two thousand hits and the amazed that they didn’t want to just say the end there for like three minutes. Phyllis elicit they say we own that they will only ever be the host and then I wrote the whole thing whole life actually knowing that she could be the host and the entire show should be improvised. You know this is an instance completely instructional she starts off and just like how everyone was so happy to have you here. Musical number. And then just breaks down in some kind of like Per. Or Small Talk about like Hollywood and what’s happened like to identity in adulthood and growing up inside of it would be a funny disaster I think. Great and then you agree as well. Course later they met a set right. Yeah it’s going to suck and they have you know it because it was more boring because I don’t I don’t think that’s what we’re after. So what do we need more or chose to needlework shows for a T.V. program awarding videos it doesn’t play videos. Yeah I mean the Grammys are supposed to be the industry award even though they’re kind of absurd. Right. Do we also need an M.T.V. Awards as a company. Do we also need that they also have a video award and aside from the music award to those who will get like Movie Awards the same time. Right and you know were they DO do movies. OK I don’t think Sharon. Yeah and it’s like this is just more reality television and the thing is you can get the celebrities in the room with you say we’ll give you a symbol of your affirmation right. You may win Best get a practice really hard work really closely with a director of photography to just nail the best kiss category this year should bring in like they should allow they should open up submissions to like new media for Best Kiss you know open up to you to get real raunchy with it like you can really make a new horizon of soft core porn. That is added that out and then run with it. You know I mean really you know you know what that was too good. Right so OK this is this really our site on the of beating is that if I did there I don’t know that going into the night. Yeah but yeah. Well it’s awfully like video games right. Give out awards like once a week to some insane five second video you put on vine or something and integrate. You’re full of ideas and I are old up in this part of their. Now they’re making stuff that I’m all talk and no doing so for the show the show actually has a lot of work so whatever you’re doing a great job. Oh I thank you so much is that because it’s like it’s working until a book and pays for the bills and then who knows if it ever well you know about like you never know I think like that right. National comedy guy. Yeah yeah and I don’t I. Yeah. Now grind their friends but it’s so thrilling and like it’s about doing what you love. Absolutely. How long have you been doing standup. I’ve been doing Santa for thirteen years. There’s one garment this year in comedy. You’re now you know you know a man a comment on man. Yes. Are you are you now allowed to transition into total cynical content to have a new Louis C.K. Bill Burton reinvention. I don’t mean that it’s all good. It’s. Yeah I love both those guys but I just saw Jim Jeffrey there of Atlanta and and stick. Absolutely and I see the new Amy Schumer movie. I know you have a movie just around her and she also in Ghostbusters and mayhem in the she has just said that our I don’t remember I just remember they’re promoting Ghostbusters like but this time with girls and it’s like yeah right. Yeah I saw it and I am not big when they and a remake classics like this. I give me a few as a you know something that may be you know when they think oh we could’ve done that better. But it just doesn’t make sense I mean that’s one of the. I think one of the best comedy ever and I mean and so it’s like so I can’t really do that for no reason and it just doesn’t make any sense. I’m not I don’t know they’re calling it a remake or just like a new spinoff franchise. But every She was really cool because like people are starting to like see her entire history of comedy which is always been pretty fuckin rock right. Like and so like some people are like we should we be like weirded out by this or something like I remember I think it was think it was Conan O’Brien I don’t remember but she was tell a story oh she steals Katie Couric cell phone and text her husband and she was having sex tonight. And so Katie’s like oh yeah there’s my husband over there she goes to talk to him comes back sick well he really wants to leave I don’t understand. Well I guess we’ll talk to you guys tomorrow. She’s I started Comedy Cellar this sitting in the audience and she did say that she knew really really funny. So like at places that are conventionally where comics come to work this stuff out. Like are there like new rules because everyone is so angry at like cell phones and like putting out material that really isn’t finished and people like saying Oh you lost it you know like this is a constant challenge is that or clubs responding to that in different ways. I mean we’re doing people onstage. Yeah to me I don’t think you should be able to you know I mean you know going to a movie do it whether it’s unfinished or not it’s it’s not something you want to release in a version you want really just you know some crappy thing that you took on your phone you know the stuff out of the artist whatever an artist that is you know music whatever family so yeah I mean I just think it’s. So that is an invasion you know you are there to see it right you know the movie when you go see a movie you know so you know you don’t you know I don’t think he has a right to really really you know you know show that you’re watching that. Well to the club owners get like a pussy about it if they see it happening. I’ve seen comics get set different levels where you know they may be really upset they see someone doing it every once in a couple times and honestly they doing on stage you can’t emotionally see that far and anyway because of those bright lights in your face right. So you know I mean even noticed somebody was doing it let alone do anything about it. So you put on a show or you can actually make you have a some sunglasses and they’ll throw out everything except infrared but you can see a little spot of red wherever every camera is like picking it up right. Me I say are rampant I mean is it really want to be on the phone I guess and the honor. I don’t know if you like a modern day Groucho Marx there somewhere where it’s like I wouldn’t want to be on anybody’s bootleg cell phone the woman that would have me on there anyway. Yeah. Yeah that that’s funny. Yeah I don’t you know I don’t really have a problem with people wanting to record me. But yeah OK I just installed your app. All right OK I got this one on top. Love it. Someone’s playing hashtag if I were pope. All right which you got for that. If you were pope in Fargo. Yeah. What would you do. Yeah forty characters I don’t know I didn’t play there are no. OK Now mind you I was reading about that the Jews were pope’s even better that than you actually talked to her. Just be like hey what’s the deal. Like was this legit or whatever. Yeah price might be holding out though he might be playing the silent treatment for the whole West murder thing you know. Yeah I think the Romans so far. It was the Roman to us and Roman of the Jews. Yeah yeah yeah yeah. OK Well here’s one from a Carfax or that one baby. Yeah that was that if you want to buy that one. I’m not even a T.V. click into it and if you look at the ads look into it. Either you have some of them in there and you can look at your parents. The more the explorers as you can boost your mileage up to fifty percent by having a can of Mountain Dew to the gas tank. The Carfax. I wrote as well one one that I do know and reports are that you can have any color as long as a lot of bad black paints and stuff like that to like this image right. There’s ones like I fact we do different failing to take absurd facts you know like any kind that winning is making anything up you want you know and it’s pretty open ended. Then there’s the different kind of which would be like a frog or movie or you know make a T.V. show sad or something like that where you know you take a T.V. show you just kind of twist twisted based on whatever theme there is news of them are finite and that is going to cause my brain doesn’t work that way. A Life lot of them but I I like the open ended ones because a cup. But it’s not to find ideas that you know there’s a lot of really funny tweet to get generated by this to the end result is you get hundreds funny content. Either you can kind of look at a read in the last hours and you can mine the hive of the Twitter minded and turn into material. Yeah well I don’t I don’t take the material it’s really Twitter more like seeds and they are jokes right. It’s like they lead you to a point of perspective of and your thing is whoever you are. But like the seed was planted. Right right.
