Weather:
Ole' Man Winter was the story on the sports scene this weekend. All games locally on Saturday were postponed. Fremont High's boys' basketball game with Lincoln High, that was postponed on Friday, will be played tomorrow night. The Tiger boys' game at Kearney, on Saturday, was postponed until a later date. The Fremont High girls' game with Lincoln High will be rescheduled for a date, yet to be announced. The Archbishop Bergan boys basketball game with Mt. Michael was postponed until a later date. Also, the Bergan girls and boys' basketball games with Lourdes CC on Saturday, were postponed until Jan. 12th.
Today:
The Fremont High girls' basketball team opens play in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Arizona today versus, Iolani, Hawaii at 12:30pm.
The Midland University women and men's bowling teams compete in day one of the Glen Carlson Invite in Las Vegas, today.
The Warrior women's basketball team plays at exhibition game at Ft. Hays State tonight at 6:00.
Basketball:
Nebraska coach Tim Miles said he could not think of a word beyond disappointment that he did not have his team ready to play. The Huskers made only 3-of-17 from three point range and were outscored 42-32 in the second half of play in a 70-62 loss at home to Gardner-Webb. It was Nebraska's sixth loss in the last seven games.
The Huskers shot only 39 percent for the game and also committed 20 turnovers in falling to 5-6.
Tai Webster led Nebraska with 17 points. Tyrell Nelson led Gardner-Webb with 25 points as the Runnin' Bulldogs improve to 7-5.
Football:
Wednesday is our Husker Luncheon at the Wooden Windmill in Fremont. Steve Sipple from the Lincoln Journal-Star will be the guest speaker. Doors open at 11:00. The All-you-care-to-eat luncheon buffet featuring Fried Chicken, meatloaf, shrimp and hashbrown casserole, is just $15 and there will be many great prizes given away. The doors open at 12 noon.
The Nebraska football team recognized its 2016 team award winners on Sunday as part of its season banquet at the Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln.
Nebraska staff members presented awards to several members of the 2016 team and Head Coach Mike Riley thanked the players, coaches and staff for their efforts that led to a 9-3 season and a berth in the Music City Bowl.
Senior receiver Jordan Westerkamp was selected as the winner of the Guy Chamberlin Trophy.
Senior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was honored as the winner of the Tom Novak Trophy.
Senior linebacker Josh Banderas, is a Lincoln native and second-generation Husker following in the footsteps of his father, Tom, who played for Nebraska in the 1980s.
The Native Son Award was also presented to punter Sam Foltz, which was accepted by place-kicker Drew Brown on behalf of the Foltz family.
Senior offensive guard Sam Hahn was presented with the 2016 Walk-on of the Year Award.
Senior tight end Sam Cotton was presented with the Husker Pride Award
Junior fullback Luke McNitt was presented Nebraska's prestigious Lifter of the Year award for his dedication, work ethic and commitment in the weight room.
Junior receiver De'Mornay Pierson-El was the winner of the Pat Clare Award.
Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Carlos Davis was honored with the Most Improved Player Award, while true freshman running back Tre Bryant earned the Newcomer-of-the-Year Award.
Five Huskers earned Scout Team MVP honors. The Scout Team Defensive MVPs were defensive end Collin Miller and linebacker Pernell Jefferson. On offense, receiver JD Spielman and quarterback Tanner Lee were recognized, while Conor Young was honored for his Special Teams scout work.
Basketball:
Creighton hit a Nebraska opponent record-tying 15 threes, as the Husker women's basketball team dropped a 80-64 decision to the Bluejays at D.J. Sokol Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Fifth-year senior Marissa Janning, the 2014 BIG EAST Player of the Year, hit a career high seven threes on her way to a team-high 22 points for the Jays.
The Huskers conclude non-conference play on Wednesday when they take on No. 1 UConn in Lincoln. Tip-off between Nebraska and the four-time defending NCAA Champion Huskies is set for Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 8 p.m.

The Omaha men's basketball team swept its non-conference series with Cal State Fullerton Sunday afternoon, outlasting the Titans 102-96 in overtime at Baxter Arena. With the win, the Mavericks improve to 7-5 (0-0 Summit League) on the season, while CSUF drops to 4-7 (0-0 Big West). Two Mavericks had double-double performances - senior guard Tra-Deon Hollins with team highs of 20 points and 10 assists along with eight rebounds, three steals and a block, as well as junior forward Tre'Shawn Thurman with 15 points, a game-high 12 rebounds, an assist and a block.
Omaha returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 21, visiting Pitt. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT in Pittsburgh, Pa.,
