COLUMBUS -A new record was set for the Lutjelusche cross country course just outside of Columbus, during Thursday nights Scotus Invitational.
Scotus Central Catholics Nathan Ostdiek set a new course record and took first place in the boys division with a time of 16:17. The next closest competitor crossed the finish line almost a minute later, when David City Aquinas's Eli Frasher finished with a time of 17:07 Justin Brockhaus of Scotus would end up taking fourth, while Lakeview's Kaleb Lusche would finish fifth.
Scotus Head Coach Merlin Lahm says Scotus's first seven boy runners and first three girl runners all ran their fastest 5k's this year.
Lahm says, “you know our goal is to qualify both the girls and boys teams for the state meet and I think we have a chance to do that, a chance to win this meet, you know we were third in our last meet, on one our first major meet so both the girls and boys teams have been pretty successful so far.”
Boone Central Newman Grove would place two runners in Ashlynn Baker who took first with a time of 20:48 and Christina Stopak who took 3rd with a time of 21:11. Kayla Tonniges of Scotus finished second with a time of 20:56, while Jessica Lahm finished fifth with a time of 21:29.
Lakeview and Scotus are both scheduled to race next in Boone Central on Friday, September 25th.
