In conversation with Colours Dekor today is Kaushali Fernando....

Kaushali, tell us a little about yourself?

I am an Interior designer moved to Dubai in 2006 with my husband & my daughter, who was 6 years at that time. After Design school I worked on many commercial design projects. Since our move to Dubai I have been freelancing residential designs.. Running a house, being a mom & doing what I love has been a juggling act. But I enjoy every bit of it.

Give us an insight to your design style.

I love to incorporate vintage elements in contemporary interiors.

I collect and love antique /vintage textiles.. I love traveling and will hunt out antiques & vintage textile where ever I go. Most of my inspirations come from these treasures.

What are you going to share on Colours Dekor today?

I recently decorated a villa for a beautiful Indian family. I'm proud to mention that this is my very 1st ethics design projects and it turned out great if I may say so :) I would like to share with Colour Dekor readers some of the project pics.

What was your inspiration for this design? Also tell us about the rest of the style in this home.

My Inspiration for this design came from a beautiful electric blue Kantha work saree my client had with palsy motif pallu. I designed the accent pillows with this saree and used the motifs on them. I upholstered my clients existing arm chairs with a vintage kantha throw which I have collected during my travel. The lladro statue of lord Ganesh was my clients 'priced possession' they told me, which was hidden in their study. I displayed this as one of the main features in the living room. The window style mirror I painted in blue and gave it an aged finish. Both the mirror & Ganesh statue now stand out in the living room as one enters. The paisley design table lamp base is an old Moroccan vase.

And where are all these soft furnishing from?

I should mentioned all the soft furnishings are designed by me which makes it unique & one of a kind.
