Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Fort Wayne Komets announced Monday that center Bobby Hughes has been acquired from the Alaska Aces in a trade for future considerations.
Hughes, 25, will be entering his seventh pro year after serving stints in the AHL, ECHL, CHL and Germany over his past six professional campaigns.
Prior to turning pro, Hughes served four seasons with the Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL from 2003-07. He was one of the premier players in the OHL and led Kingston in scoring with 40 goals, 56 assists and 96 points in 59 games during his final season of junior play in 2006-07.
The Richmond Hill, Ontario native was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round (123rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and made his pro debut appearing in on playoff game with the AHL's Albany River Rats in 2007. From 2007-11, the center skated in the AHL, ECHL and CHL.
Hughes played a shortened season of 10 games in Germany during 2011-12 making an impact with six goals and 15 points and adding five goals and four assists in six playoff games.
Last season, Hughes skated his first complete ECHL season appearing in 59 games with Alaska posting 15 goals and 39 points and scoring team highs of nine goals, eight assists and 17 points in 11 Kelly Cup Playoff games.
