Lee Corso’s headgear pick is a College GameDay tradition, but don’t expect him to pick the Auburn Tigers any time soon. During a panel at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta, Corso revealed the reason why he has never donned mascot Aubie’s head.

Interesting tidbit from Lee Corso. The only school that will NOT let him put on the headgear is Auburn. pic.twitter.com/1AM7ypXz58

Lee Corso says Aubrun is the only school that doesn’t allow him to put on their headgear. “So I’m not going to pick ‘em”

David Reynolds, who served as head Aubie from 1991-92 according to the mascot’s Wikipedia page, expanded on the rule on Twitter.

@MorganOnAir @colecubelic Strict mascot rule – only the Aubies can be Aubie

@MorganOnAir @colecubelic Maintains character of Aubie. Also, no matter what, no talking once suit is on.

It should be noted that Corso has chosen Auburn in the past. In 2013, he wore an AU helmet while picking the then-unranked Tigers to beat No. 24 Ole Miss at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Corso’s call was right. Auburn won the game 30-22, and wound up running the table the rest of the season before losing to Florida State in the BCS National Championship. If GameDay heads to Auburn this year, we’ll have to see if Corso’s willing to go against his rule.
