India’s premier management institute the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIM-Bangalore) will be raising money for charity during the “Joy of Giving Week” (JOGW), which will be celebrated in the institute from Wednesday, October 2 to Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

IIM-Bangalore plans to raise the money by letting people from outside the sphere of IIM-Bangalore to attend its classes for a day. This flagship event has been named “One Day @ IIMB”. Through the event, members of the general public will get a chance to experience how a usual day at IIM-Bangalore’s campus goes.

To garner funds for the event, the institute has organized an online bidding arrangement. Once the bidding period concludes, the top 70 bidders will gain entry passes to spend the day of Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the institute premises. Individuals need to make a bid of at least Rs. 2,000. Bidders will receive daily email alerts telling them if they have made it to the top 70 position or not. This will enable bidders to raise their bid to stay ahead in the competition.

As per information available at the institute website, the daily life of an average student of IIM-Bangalore consists of a busy schedule in academics including case studies, current affairs and other areas as well as constant interaction with faculty and other officials. In the midst of these, the students indulge in a variety of projects and extra-curricular activities too. One Day @ IIMB will provide the opportunity to many people to get a feel of that life, the website added.

The proceeds collected from the event will be donated by “Vikasana” to its associate Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), namely U&I and Oasis India.

Vikasana is a social service program initiated by the students of IIM-Bangalore.

A host of other events have also been arranged for JOGW. Aspiring managers and entrepreneurs will participate in a “run for a cause” along with former students of the institute. A “Wish Tree” will also be put up at the campus jointly with the “Make a Wish Foundation” which will enable people to reach out to children to fulfill their wishes.

Make a Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that fulfills wishes of children with life threatening medical conditions.

The weeklong celebrations include “giving to rehabilitate” with the help of a classical music concert, “giving to environment” via a campus clean-up initiative and “spreading warmth” by means of a clothes-collection mission.

Few other activities include dinner with the former pupils of IIM-Bangalore, lectures by eminent IIM-Bangalore faculty members, sports activities, on-campus treasure hunt, interactive case studies with management students, etc.
