BLURB:
Forty-four year old Julie Weston has loved Timmy and James since her college days twenty something years ago. She's fantasized about both all these long years, never able to choose between them.
Hoping Tim and James will attend, she attends their college marching band reunion. When both men show up her dreams are answered. They're sexier than she imagined and she hopes they won't be disappointed by her older self.
It turns out both men came just to see her again and neither is happy about the other’s presence. They fight over her, confusing her more than ever. It takes a hot ménage…or two…for her heart to decide which one she’s in love with.
EXCERPT:
“I’m so hungry—for you.” Tim twisted her hair in his fingers and pressed his lips to her forehead. “And I’m so hot, if you know what I mean.”
“Me too.” She was glad for her buzz, for the courage it provided. She longed to kiss him, wondered why he hadn’t kissed her yet.
“Let’s ditch dinner and…”
A shadow fell between them and James grabbed her away from Tim. “I’m breaking in. You’ve monopolized her all night.”
“But you don’t dance. You don’t like disco,” she blurted, surprised but thrilled.
“I do now. If it’s the only way I get my turn to see you, I’ll dance all night. I’m tired of waiting for you at the table.” James tugged her into his arms, ignoring Tim’s deathly glare.
“One dance, then I’m coming back.” Tim stalked away and grabbed a drink, which he downed in one gulp.
James’ warmth replaced Tim’s.
“Thank you.” She wiggled beside James hoping she could make him as hot as she’d made Tim.
“For rescuing you from Tim? You didn’t look as though you wanted rescuing.” James held her close but his nostrils flared and his eyes narrowed to mere slits.
“Not for tonight. For all those years ago you told him off for abandoning me. I wish I’d known. I also wish I’d done this.” Before she could lose her nerve, she pressed her lips to his.
He pulled back and gazed into her eyes, suspicion in his. “Are you drunk?”
Hurt and embarrassed she held up one finger. “I only had one drink. And I kissed you because I’ve wanted to do so for many years and I don’t want to let you go again without you knowing that, without knowing what it feels like.”
A low growl rumbled from James. Desire lit his eyes. Purpose firmed his lips. Without another word, he lowered his head and kissed her deeply, thoroughly.
He tasted so good, like steak and Cabernet and she couldn’t get enough. Her legs rubbery, about to give out on her, she clung to him. Her heart seemed to swell to triple its normal size. James’ was robust and passionate and full of pent-up longing.
“You wanted to kiss me too, all those years ago,” she muttered, touching his lips. It wasn’t a question. He tasted too good, was too mesmerizing to move away from.
“Yes.” The answer was long, drawn out and breathy. Full of emotion.
“Why didn’t we?”
Please welcome Ashley Ladd, esteemed Romance Writer, once AGAIN to this Blog; named after my "labor of love": THE MYSTERY ALLIANCE: EVIAN'S SAGA. Please feel free to read & enjoy my new Special, Feature Interview with her:
INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
Please name one of the greatest things you love or even cherish about being a Writer/Author.
I love the ability to create romance, to live it, dream it, and day dream about it for a job.
Are there any particular characters or is there any particular character that you’ve created in which you can identify with or that you may hold dear to your heart?
I identify a lot with Haley from ‘Purrfect Justice’ published by Ellora’s Cave. I wanted to join the FBI and didn’t qualify because of my hearing loss. Haley wanted to be a cop and didn’t qualify because of her poor eyesight. She went to work for the police station as an administrative assistant and in her off duty time she likes to listen to police scanners. She’s also fallen in love with one of the police officers at her station who doesn’t seem to know she exists. One Halloween as she’s coming home from a costume party dressed as Cat Woman, she hears that the man she’s in love with is in trouble and she saves him. This becomes a habit (in costume so no one knows who she is) and the police are trying to figure out who this mysterious woman she is.
Do you ever not feel excited about your writing? And has writing ever felt like a chore to you?
Actually, I’m feeling extremely overwhelmed and exhausted tonight. ‘Her Men’ releases in a couple days and I’ve been very busy writing guest blogs, answering interviews, and finding new blogs to tour on. That plus working overtime at my day job and setting up promotion for the next book coming out October 24th, Spooky Sojourn.
Is there any other genre with which you would like to “try your hand” at?
I’d like to write a historical romance. The closest I’ve come is to write a couple time travels into the past or alternate universes. I think it’d be a lot of fun but very research intensive.
Is there any specific Writer/Author in which you admire, including their chosen genre, their success, etc.?
I’m a big fan of Sherryl Woods. She used to be a member of the Florida Romance Writers and I love her romances. I see new books releasing from her all the time at the big booksellers so obviously she’s doing something right.
What specifically about you, would you like to share with your readers?
I really appreciate each and every one of my readers and also you and the other bloggers and fellow authors who have been so kind to help me share news about my books.
Do you have any regrets since becoming a Writer/Author that you wish you could change?
I can’t think of any – except for the two years off I took when I got depressed. I lost a lot of momentum.
How important is it to you that your family support you as a Writer/Author? In this context, I mean, emotional support.
It would be nice and mean a lot. Unfortunately, my family feels I’m stealing time from them when I write. Also my (adult) kids are embarrassed by romance much less erotic romance, so I don’t get any support there. My dad was very supportive before he came down with Alzheimer’s. I really appreciated that.
What is the next step in your career as a Writer/Author, since your recent successful completion of 3 Erotic Romance novels?
Spooky Sojourn (paranormal mf erotic romance) will release October 24thand Perfect Lover (erotic BDSM mf romance) will release in March 2015. And I’m working on Gaycation and erotic mmf – or at least I’ll get back to it as soon as I finish with the book tour for Her Men and Spooky Sojourn.
If you have anything else to add now, please feel free to do so.
Thank you! I really appreciate your help and kindness in promoting ‘Her Men’.
I also appreciate all my readers. I hope you enjoy my stories.
A Brilliant, yet Insightful Commentary from Writer/Author Ashley Ladd
Life Sucks When It Happens To Me You
By Ashley Ladd
Have you noticed that when something bad happens to you it’s terrible? Maybe it even nears on being the end of the world? However if that same thing happens to someone else, it doesn’t seem that bad?
This week a young lady I know lost her job. I’ll stop mincing words –she was fired. She saw it coming and she’s been dreading it. She said she was doing okay, that it was inevitable, and that now she could have a fresh start. Then her brave words crumbled as tears filled her eyes and her voice trembled. Since then, all she’s talked about is finding a new job, about money worries, about if she’s good enough at anything for anyone to want to hire her. She’s worried that she weighs too much and no one will want to hire her because of her appearance. She’s worried that she’s only had this one job and it only lasted two and a half years, that she doesn’t have sufficient experience to land a new job. She worries that she’s too soft spoken.
Obviously, this is very traumatizing for her.
As an outsider, I look at it and see a very capable, beautiful young lady who was fired unfairly, who should have no trouble finding and keeping a new job. I see someone who’s a whiz at computers and manipulating graphics. I see someone who was very loyal and dedicated, who was never late one day at her old job, who took only one sick day in two and a half years. I see someone that worked through the majority of her breaks and that stayed extra time whenever asked. I see someone who saved most of her money to put herself through college and in case this rainy day happened. I see someone who’s attending college part time while she’s working. I know that she’ll be much happier with a new employer and a new group of coworkers who are hopefully closer to her age. I know this is but an important step in her journey to a better life.
But then I wonder, what if I was go to into work tomorrow and get fired? How would I survive? How would I support my family? Wild panic sets in.
I earn double this young lady’s salary so could I find a salary comparable to what I earn now? Also, I suffer with severe hearing loss and I’m in my fifties. Who wants to hire a disabled older person? Plus I support a family of six where only one other person works part time. What would we do should I become unemployed? My 30 plus years experience doesn’t feel like much help. Neither does my MBA or military service. My hearing disability trumps that, right?
Hopefully I’m wrong, but that’s my perspective.
We authors put the screws to our heroes and heroines in our romance novels. The more trouble we can heap upon them, the more enjoyable the read. We know they’ll eventually dig their way out to a better life, usually a much better life with a handsome, sexy hero to boot.
Our readers know that too, but get lost in the story and wound up in the heroine’s woes. We (at least me) actually enjoy experiencing someone else’s woes. Or maybe what we enjoy is watching how the heroine maneuvers her way out of her problems—usually not before getting into deeper problems before things get better. Maybe we know the formula too well, that the heroine always triumphs, or maybe it’s because we know nothing is that bad as long as we have life and health. Things will work out well in the end. Most of all, the heroine’s story gives us respite from our own worries and strifes.
For instance, I’m watching Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan where Spock dies. Khan’s determined to kill Kirk as Spock lies dying. Repeat: Spock is dying. Yet the story is still entertaining because it’s happening to someone else. Or maybe because we know that Star Trek won’t let Spock stay dead. Or perhaps it’s because we know that dying is part of life and as long as it isn’t happening to us, we can live with it.
As heart wrenching as it is to watch Spock dying and Kirk’s heart breaking, it’s still not the same as when life puts the screws to me.
