PORTLAND, OR – September 20th, 2016 – Japan produces many interesting families of tea, but the largest and most widely known of these is sencha. Sencha is a style of green tea that was popularized in Japan during the 18th century. As with many styles of tea, sencha sometimes falls victim to its own popularity. Many low-quality examples flood the market, and there’s a general lack of understanding, especially among Western tea drinkers, of how to bring out the best flavor in better examples. On Saturday, October 15th and Sunday, October 16th tea farmer Nobuyuki Konishi will be visiting The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company from Shizuoka, Japan to give a special talk and tea tasting. In this presentation he will brew excellent sencha and black tea specimens from his biodynamic farm. He’ll employ Japanese-style brewing parameters, which may reveal characteristics quite different from those you’re used to, and will hopefully expand your understanding of, and appreciation for his wonderful teas.

Konishi-San grows and produces the high quality Eiju, Tsuyuhikari, Shinko senchas as well as the Benifuki and Yuzu black teas available at The Jasmine Pearl. At this event, he’ll brew his teas, answer your questions, and talk about his biodynamic farm and processing methods. This is a rare opportunity to learn more about Japanese teas and tea production from an exceptionally talented producer. He will be making appearances at The Jasmine Pearl tea shop throughout the week of October 14th- October 19th so be sure to swing by and say hello!

No registration necessary. Just show up at the appropriate times listed above.

The Jasmine Pearl’s tea shop is located at 724 NE 22nd Ave., Portland, OR 97232
