So, I finished Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life… I won’t share any plot spoilers, because I know many of you are still working your way though the four-part revival, but I will admit I feel let down by the writing. Especially when it comes to Rory. In the final seasons of the TV show Rory admittedly became quite intolerable – blind to her own privilege and increasingly self-centred.

But I hoped the Gilmore Girls creators would give the hard-working, ambitious Rory we first met in season one the ending she deserved. And instead all we got was a whinging 32-year-old with no drive or work ethic. So hardly the bright, empowered and successful woman we expected her to become.

Obviously it was a reflection of a bad year in Rory’s life, but it felt like a real shame. And I’m not the only one who feels this way. If you’ve already finished the Netflix revival then check out the analysis from the Washington Post.
