Madison – Madison Mayor Paul Soglin and Dane County Executive Joe Parisi seek nominations for the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award. The City and the County each have long histories of honoring deserving individuals who demonstrate leadership and commitment to promoting peace between diverse populations.
“A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus,” said Dr. King. Each of the Humanitarian Award winners will follow that model. Each of the Humanitarian Award winners--past and present--embodies that message. Two Humanitarian Awards will be presented: one for Young Leaders (ages 13-19) and one for Humanitarians (ages 20 and above). The nomination deadline is December 20, 2013 by 4:30 pm.
“As 2013 comes to a close, it is critical to reflect and honor our diversity as a county.” said County Executive Joe Parisi. “As we are informed of the distance that still separates us—we encouraged to follow the example of those around us who build bridges and embrace our differences.”

Mayor Paul Soglin stated, “Madison is a wonderful community where people from all walks of life are ready to reach out and assist those in need. I am gratified that the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Awards are a way to recognize those people while honoring the legacy of Dr. King.”
The City and County will present the awards at the 28th Annual City-County Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance on Monday, January 20st, at the Overture Center Capital Theater, 201 State Street, Madison. The program begins at 6:00 p.m.
