It’s finally here: Joey Bada$$’s follow-up to last year’s lauded 1999 mixtape, Summer Knights. In the year since 1999, Joey’s profile has risen dramatically along with the entire Pro Era collective. He recently finished the Beast Coast Tour with Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers, which took the title as his most extensive tour to date. The 17-track Summer Knights mixtape features production and guest appearances from regular collaborators such as Chuck Strangers and Kirk Knight as well as DJ Premier. On first listen, Joey still has his mature and classically influenced flow and consistent bars we’ve come to expect.
The 18-year-old Brooklyn rapper has been on hotly tipped in hip hop circles due to his youth and emphasis on musical artistry. His talent caught the ear of Cinematic Music, which has since signed Joey and the Pro Era collective. There seems to be no sign of slowing down for the young rapper as his debut studio album B4.Da.$$ is due out this fall. Download Summer Knights here and check out the mixtape’s tracklist, below.
