Welcome to Radio Round-up, wherein we take a look at what is happening in the college radio world.

University of Wisconsin-La Crosse‘s student-run internet radio station RAQ was working on making the move to FM with a new low-power FM license, a trend we’ve seen increasing lately. Because of financial challenges facing the University, the administration decided the LPFM license was an expense they could not afford, and they returned their license to the FCC much to the disappointment of those who had been working for years to obtain it. RAQ has been growing in popularity on campus, and the station was hoping that an FM license would help boost interest in the station on campus and in the community. But even with the disappointing news about the license, they have continued to push forward with the work they are doing at the station.

On the brighter side of radio news, Radio World published an article “Is College Radio Still Viable?” that looks at the many ways that college radio is still thriving and expanding today.

Last week, WMUA at the University of Massachusetts Amherst announced their annual Fall Concert which will take place on September 26. The line-up includes Mitski, Tica Douglas and a yet to be announced surprise artist.
