Welcome to the April 2015 Artist Team Challenge!

Throughout March, the Artist Team contributed Pins to a Botanicals Mood Board on Pinterest. The April challenge is to create a card, page or other project that is inspired by one (or more) Pins from that board. Let’s check out what the Artist Team created!

I decided to use a similar technique to that of the Pin,  but instead of creating a greeting card, I chose to make a set of four bookmarks.

The stamped images were heat-embossed  with white embossing powder. Multiple shades of watercolors were painted over the embossed images.

Once that was dry, I stamped script images in the blank areas and inked the edges of each bookmark. I added punched holes at the top along with ribbon and flower embellishments.

When I create, most often I want to create what I want to create. But, what do I want to create today? A common dilemma for many artists I am sure.

In comes the Club Scrap Botanicals Mood Board on Pinterest. So many wonderful ideas. I had seen this art journal page on Pinterest over and over, and told myself one day I’d create a similar page. When I received this month’s kit and saw the stamps and the Pin on the mood board, I knew it was time to make it.

I love finding an inspiration piece, peeking at it and then putting it away; creating without  trying to duplicate the other artist’s work and keeping my personal touch and style intact.

I was inspired by two different pins. First, I liked the idea of the decorative strip on the  inspiration card, so I duplicated the technique on two cards of my own.

I also really liked the bokeh technique found HERE. I followed the instructions to make the backgrounds for the cards below.

I was inspired by the dreamy dandelions in the painting and the pops of color among the tips of the dandelions.

I heat-embossed the Botanicals stamped images paired with a pastel medley of watercolors to reflect a softer version of the Pinterest painting.

MARYA KASZUBINSKI

There we so many amazing pins on the Botanicals Mood Board this month that I couldn’t pick just one!  I thought a great way to showcase multiple pins was to create a pocket-style scrapbook page.  One of my goals this year is to get my childhood photos in albums. This style is perfect for a quick and easy album.

I was inspired by three pins:

The circles and the gold image HERE really spoke to me, so I created a pocket card for the left side of the page using the small starburst bloom stamp and Topaz ink. The solid botanical image was heat-embossed with gold embossing powder.

I loved the combination of the splatters and the black image on this Pin, so I recreated another pocket card using Fuchsia and Carnation hybrid inks for the splatters and India ink for the solid image.

I also really liked the woodblock/cutout feeling of this Pin, so I created a detail card using the white cardstock and the Branches Masking Stencil from the Lite kit.  I traced around the stencil and cut the image out with a knife and mat. I love having negative space cards on my pocket scrapbook pages to give it some unexpected interest.

Actually, I was inspired by not just one, but several of the Pins on the board. My favorites had one thing in common: they all featured white embossed images. So I began by stamping plain panels with Botanicals images and heat-embossing with white embossing powder.

The images were highlighted with a variety of techniques using PanPastels and watercolor paints. The panels were then trimmed and used to decorate a variety of cards. I invite you to visit my blog for more details!

I decided to go simple with this challenge and show how easy it is to take inspiration from someone or something else and make it my own.

The Botanicals stamps are simply beautiful and are perfect for creating similar cards.

I was so excited about this month’s challenge that I couldn’t resist playing along.

I chose the Pin because I really liked the combination of masked and sprayed background with the stamped black silhouette images.

I used masks from Retreat 2014 and Geometrics with pigment ink sprays to create the background. Botanicals images and sentiments were stamped in India ink.

I added silk and paper flowers and other embellishments as accents.

I hope you enjoy the inspired artwork shared here today, and I invite you to check out Club Scrap’s 04.15 Botanicals Mood Board on Pinterest, too. Happy crafting!
