I don't want to say I told you so, but...

Paris Hilton was yesterday offered an extended residency for next year, at the world famous Amnesia nightclub in Ibiza, after hosting one of the busiest and most popular nights on the island. Yes, you read that right. No, I'm not on drugs, and yes, I'm betting that you're shaking your head in disgust. I had no doubt something like this would happen, simply because the island was crying out for a night like it. The booking was a stoke of genius for the club. They needed a night to bring the, dare I say it, "crap" that flood the streets and bars of San Antonio's West End, and get them into a club setting to spend money. These are the same people who have never set foot in the big "superclubs" and couldn't name a DJ that hasn't appeared on a commercial radio station playlist. These are the people who love foam parties and love cheesy commercial music and they will never have the opportunity to see someone like Paris Hilton in the flesh. It's the perfect combination.

So let's get a few "facts" out of the way before you decide to hang up the headphones forever. I have been to the "While Isle" many, many times. I used to work for some of the clubs there "back in the day" and I have a fair idea at how the economics of the scene work. I want to make something very clear to all you people out there who are about to give up on chasing your DJ dream. I can 100% guarantee you that you absolutely WILL NOT want to have the gig she has there. Trust me. This is not "DJing" and she is certainly not mixing with the skills all of you hardworking DJs and producers have worked so hard to master. I'm pretty sure if you put her in front of a set of decks and mixer with no laptop or mixing program, she'd be utterly lost.

You see, her night, "Foam and Diamonds," never was, and never will be on the same league as the other clubbing brands on the island. You will NEVER see a reputable named DJ play there. You will NEVER see a good, well educated club crowd attend either. The night is geared specifically towards the mass market, bullshit, beer swilling Brits who flood the island looking for promiscuous sex and getting blind drunk on as much cheap alcohol as possible. You, as an educated music lover, should put the "disgrace" and "disgust" you have at Miss Hilton's rise to "DJ stardom" *cough* into a little box, lock it and toss it off a cliff into the deepest ocean. You have nothing to worry about. The electronic music scene has not lost any credibility, simply because her residency, and her music choice and DJing ability, has absolutely nothing to do with the scene we all know in love.

Please keep doing what you are all doing and know that with hard work and persistence, you will succeed without selling out. Regardless of what the social media world is saying, this is not the end of the world. And contrary to popular belief, our scene is growing and is bigger and more credible than ever. Even when people like Paris Hilton butcher mixes in front of foam covered drunk tourists.
