Hey, I really like this style of CFL... and it's too bad the industry didn't take up this technology. Apparently it remained a fringe (elite) style due to concerns with large amounts of EMF backfeeding into the mains. Now with high efficiency ballasts and high quality RF chokes this issue is a mute point.
I actually have an original induction lamp that was built in the 1950's somewhere in the house that was used as a shortwave mineral light. The original use for induction lighting was in electrodeless quartz lamps. Instead of having a high tech ballast, it used a combination of a Radiotube and a HV transformer.... I think the tube oscillated in the 10's of Mhz at 2.5Kv.
Sorry... Runny I totally missed your point about the lamps... Really cool kind of lighting. It's too bad that this lighting is not more commonplace.
