Greg,

Interesting, the culture there sounds similar to the Hawaii culture, where land at one time was held more or less in common, and the only thing you could really lay claim to, was what structures you built. Have to wonder if all of these things stem from the past, when everything was more tribal, and most things were held in common. Does that make any sense to you, I have never really taken the time to research it. But I know somewhat of this too, as I have a lot of Native American Indian heritage on both sides of my family, father and mother.

This is very different from how we live in the US, we own property and homes and the plants we have are ours. If you farm and you pick crops from that land, it is stealing and you can be arrested and go to jail, if you don't have persimmon or buy it. Here my 1/4 acre is fenced, but they can jump it. and that happens. Last year I had a couple little boys, like 4 or 5 years of age,who tore off one of my fence boards and came into to pick pomegranates fruits. Some jump the fence, but they were too small and short. If people ask, I will share some, all depending on how much the tree has produced. I share all of my excess fruit with friends neighbors. I don't know if I would grow fruit trees if what I grew was not solely mine and I could share as I needed. But if they only took a little, I could live with that, I do the same for the birds. I don't mind them, as long as they leave me with plenty to eat and share. I guess that would take a very different mind set, then what I am used to.

Thanks for the extended educational journey.

David
