The 2015 Grammy Awards are this Sunday, Feb 8. Perhaps, the most important music awards show in America will feature performances by Beyoncé (who is also nominated for Album of the Year), Madonna, Katy Perry, Sam Smith Kanye West, Rihanna, Paul McCartney and just about anyone else our little heart desires.
Whether you watch the Grammys for the music, to see what your favorite stars are wearing or for the many OMG moments, they’re a must-see event that everyone will be talking about the next day. So consider this list your Grammys pre-game. This is the 57th Annual Grammy Awards show so a lot has happened over the past few decades. These are the 7 most memorable Grammy Awards Show moments that made us feel, gasp and weep.
1. Beyonce and Tina Turner Perform
The kind of performance that makes you scream, “YAAAS” at the TV. One legendary diva ushered in a new one with a sizzling performance. It was flawless.
2. Lady Gaga’s Egg’cellent Arrival
In 2011, Lady Gaga made an entrance like no other. Arriving in an egg-like incubator, carried by a group of muscular men, the red carpet was a buzz with speculation. Was it Gaga? Was it the apocalypse? Who was the mysterious creature about to hatch? It was none other than Gaga. We love a chick who isn’t afraid to crack a few eggs to make an omelet.
3. Bob Dylan Gets “Soy Bombed”
An OMG moment like no other. During Bob Dylan’s 1998 Grammy performance a backup dancer with the words “soy bomb” painted on his body got a little too into it. The performance artist, Michael Portnoy, stole the spotlight from Dylan and it was, um, weird.
4. Melissa Etheridge Pays Tribute To Janis Joplin
Some of the most memorable moments are the most inspiring. A tribute to Janis Joplin would floor anyone but when Melissa Etheridge appeared at the 2005 Grammys during her battle with cancer, it was truly a triumphant moment for women who rock. A proudly bald Etheridge performed with Joss Stone and the two left the audience in awe.
5. MIA’s Baby Bump
The “Paper Planes” singer wasn’t going to opt out of her 2009 performance with T.I., Kanye, Jay Z and Lil’ Wayne just because she was pregnant. In a form-fitting sheer, polka dot outfit the singer took the stage and made baby bumps look cool. Let’s just say, this outfit wasn’t on the worst dressed or best dressed list, it was THE list.
6. Milli Vanilli Are Stripped of Their Grammy Win
The famous duo made a huge splash, winning “Best New Artist” in 1990. The only thing was: they didn’t sing a single tune on their album. It turned out the duo were completely phony lip syncers. For the first time in Grammy history, the award was rescinded.
7. Adele’s Big Year
2012 was a groundbreaking year for Adele. The soulful signer was nominated for six Grammy awards. While most of us were practically throwing trophies at her, the rest were left in tears during her powerhouse performance of “Rolling in the Deep.”
