There is one honest-to-goodness entity though which provides financial relief to members belonging to not-so-high sector of society and which orientation is similar to the Brahmeen bank in Bangladesh and helps its members survive financial crunch through its easy-to-acquire and repay credit scheme. This entity is the CARD-MRI or the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institution and it has been cited as a partner in the grant of student loans for UP Diliman which was earlier put to unsavory light with the death of its financially-troubled student, Kristel Tejada who committed suicide due to, yes, severe financial strait.
Recognizing the urgent need of UP alumni to survive the curriculum and modest tuition fees, BCDA president Arnel Paciano Casanova, likewise a UP alumnus, along with fellow alumni, initiated an education loan fund to bridge the struggling students’ requirements for financial assistance, in order to avoid the tragedy that befell Tejada and family.
The easy to access and repay loans shall be available to qualified student applicants at very low interest.
Lawyer Casanova reportedly urged all UP alumni to donate a minimum of P1,000 a year to the fund so that “it would grow and help as many students as possible.”
Cannot this noble initiative be replicated here in Central Luzon to aid poor but deserving students in this part of the woods?
Cannot the businessmen and traders and other noble hearts form a similar group to find out how it can help struggling yet deserving students in their educational and financial requirements? A modest annual contribution of P1,000 to a fund will not make a big dent on their pockets and savings accounts.

Over at barangay Calumpang, punong barangay Jimmy Jimenez needs another mandate to keep his barangay at par with the village barangays: Marcos and Macapagal or probably more productive than these two. Despite protestations of the owner Erik Gomez, Paradise Ranch, a profitable entity, is indisputably situated at Calumpang. There is also a quarry site which gives the small barangay some income, despite the rivalry between the tribal associations. Kap Jimmy says that Calumpang Aeta Tribal Association, headed by Angel Sison, son of the former punong barangay Ruben Sison, should now be given recognition and acknowledgment as the appropriate entity to handle the quarry activities in Barangay Calumpang, to the exclusion of the other pretenders. The boundary dispute there deserves another story.
