Description: POSITION SUMMARY:
The HR Generalist collaborates with the HR Team, Managers, Supervisors and Employees to provide a high level of HR support and guidance. The HR Generalist is responsible for performing a wide range of HR activities including recruitment & selection, training & development, policy and procedure, Occupational Health & Safety, performance management, employee relations, succession planning, recognition and general administration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Communicates to employees various human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations in a timely manner
• Assists with the completion of the WFN Compensation review, Strategic Planning, HR Work Plan Priorities, personnel policies and procedures, and Health and Safety initiatives and the implementation processes
• Serves as the backup for the Recruitment/T & D Coordinator and provides support as required
• Provides recommendations and assistance to Managers and facilitates training in regards to Performance Management including yearly appraisals
• Assists in the facilitation/implementation of employee legal matters in collaboration with external Legal Counsel, including disciplinary or safety issues, investigations, mediations and terminations
• Provides guidance and input on departmental restructuring and succession planning
• Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR team to develop solutions, programs and policies
• Manages wellness programs and annual staff events
• Promotes a respectful workplace, conducts investigations and facilitates remedial actions
• Promotes workplace Health and Wellness by creating initiatives such as lunch & learns and relevant programs
• Acts as the first point of contact for disability and leave claims and establishes a timely and confidential process
• Coordinates effective employee Health, Accommodation, Attendance Management and Return to Work Plans in collaboration with Supervisors, employees and external stakeholders
• Serves as a member on the Occupational Health & Safety Committee and takes a strong lead on promoting health & safety in the organization
• Coaches managers/supervisors on effective employee performance management and provides advice, guidance and recommendation for improvement
• Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of success of training programs and ensure training objectives are met
• Analyzes data from exit interviews, makes recommendations for corrective action and continuous improvement and facilities once approved
• Supports with administration of organization-wide annual performance review process
• Establishes an organization-wide employee recognition program and facilitates as such
• Attends and presents at Council and HR Committee meetings as required
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary in the performance of the position and as assigned by the Manager, HR & Administration
• Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as directed by the Human Resources Manager
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
• A Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Human Resources
• Canadian Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP) is preferred
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Human Resources field
• Direct experience in policy and procedure development
• A high level of experience in OHS and claims management is a must
• Direct leading experience in dealing with employee relations
• Previous experience working in a local government or First Nation environment is considered an asset
• The ability to mediate manager/staff situations
• Knowledge of employment laws and standards is essential
• Superior Customer Services skills
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels
• Have an understanding and appreciation for First Nation culture
• The ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment with numerous priorities
• Solution oriented
