In the recently published, Founder's Flies by Mike Valla (a very good read by he way, worth the space in anyone's library), is this following photo, showing Dan Bailey with his favorite fly rod.
This is an Orvis 8'0", 4 3/8 ounce, 6 WT., model Battenkill. In 1984 for Trout Unlimited's 25th Anniversary, John Bailey (his son) offered this rod up at the TU National Anniversary celebration and fundraising event, where it was purchased by its current owner. He is now offering it for sale, with a provenance letter written and signed by John Bailey and another by the current owner. The 2/2 rod comes with its original Champion tube, Orvis rod bag, photo of Dan with the rod and the noted provenance. This rod is in very good used condition, showing the use acquired by Dan fishing his beloved rivers in Montana and Wyoming. This is a case of, "if only it could talk", imagine the stories it participated in in the 1950's and 1960's fishing the west before many knew about it? This historical rod is being offered for $695.00 plus S&H.
