Market leader RM Sotheby’s has just held a successful sales event in Florida, with a pretty high percentage of cars sold. Here are some of the most interesting results of the classic car auction on Amelia Island:

Ferrari

RM Sotheby’s focused particularly on classic Ferraris of the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. The Dino and the Daytona both have solid fan bases, turning these relatively young cars into exclusive collectables. Then again, just about any Ferrari seems to be worth a look: classic Coupés and Cabriolets from the ‘50s and ‘60s have been performing strongly for a long time, and the luxurious 330 GT 4-seater seems to have caught up with them since 2013. The car on offer at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction, for example, outperformed the Hagerty index by nearly $100,000.

1967 Ferrari 330 GTC by Pininfarina: $907,500

1972 Ferrari 246 Dino GT: $363,000

1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet by Pinin Farina: $6,380,000

1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta by Scaglietti: $770,000

1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti: $3,300,000

1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series II by Pininfarina: $451,000

1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS: $396,000

1953 Ferrari 212 Europa Coupe by Vignale: $1,550,000

Mercedes

While the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL is an undisputed icon, with stable prices of around $1,000,000, its less sporty brother, the 190 SL has recently become a collectable in its own right. It provides further evidence of the brand’s expertise in making comfortable open-top cruisers. Meanwhile, the “Pagoda”, often mentioned as an entry-level car for aspiring collectors, is now also moving up the ranks. Following the Rétromobile auctions at the beginning of the year, the 1969 280 SL topped the $100,000 mark again at Amelia Island. The outstanding Mercedes at the auction, however, was a spectacular pre-war compressor (500/540K) that met the auction house’s expectations with a winning bid of $3,025,000.

1956 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL: $165,000

1957 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL: $209,000

1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster: $962,500

1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet A: $286,000

1969 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL ‘Pagoda’: $132,000

1935 Mercedes-Benz 500/540 K Cabriolet A by Sindelfingen: $3,025,000

1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 Sc Cabriolet: $1,100,000

Porsche

It seems that buying a youngtimer from Porsche can be a fast-track to owning a classic car. Special versions of the 911 from the late 1980s, for example, did pretty well at Amelia Island compared to the older versions.

1989 Porsche 911 Speedster: $264,000

1979 Porsche 911 Turbo: $253,000

1971 Porsche 911 S 2.2 Coupe: $159,500

1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI Coupe: $308,000

1988 Porsche 911 Turbo ‘Slant Nose’ Cabriolet: $363,000

1971 Porsche 911 T 2.2 Coupe: $110,000

1958 Porsche 356 A 1600 Speedster by Reutter: $253,000

1987 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe: $220,000

1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring: $891,000

Aston Martin

The power and elegance of the late DBs often overshadows interesting cars from the earlier days of the DB era.

1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mk II: $700,000

1957 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk III by Tickford: $335,500

Jaguar

The race-bred D-Type was one of the outstanding lots in RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island sale, but it just failed to meet the auction house’s high expectations – unlike two open-top E-Types.

1955 Jaguar D-Type: $3,675,000

1967 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster: $181,500

1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Roadster: $330,000

1970 Jaguar E-Type Series 2 4.2-Litre Fixed Head Coupe: $99,000

1949 Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster: $315,000

1958 Jaguar XK150 S 3.4 Roadster: $341,000

1961 Jaguar XK150 3.8 Drophead Coupe: $192,500

1956 Arnolt-Bristol Deluxe Roadster by Bertone: $484,000

1952 Kurtis Kraft 4000 “Bowes Seal Fast” Special: $495,000

1927 Miller 91 “Boyle Valve” Special: $770,000
