An Amey worker has died following a collision with his waste collection vehicle.

The incident took place on Friday morning (8 April) in Daventry, around the northern end of Ashby Road near Langdon Close.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene and investigations are under way into how the collision took place.

Rob Edmondson, director environmental Services at Amey, which runs Daventry District Council’s waste collections, said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm that one of our employees has died this morning.

“We are unable to provide further details about this incident at present, however our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and friends affected, and we are working with the police to establish how this tragic event has taken place.

“We have ceased collections for the rest of today in order to support our employees in light of this news.”

Ian Vincent, chief executive of Daventry District Council told the Daventry Express: “We are shocked and saddened by this terrible, tragic incident during today’s bin round in Daventry.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the crew member’s family, friends and colleagues at Amey.”
