The operational assets of a power plant and waste recycling centre near York are to be sold at the end of September at an auction that is expected to generate more than £1m, following a High Court judgement on debt owed by the Walled Garden Partnership.

Eddisons will be auctioning the operational assets and ancillary plant of the gas engine-based power plant and waste recycling centre at Alne, near York, by instruction of debt recovery agency the High Court Enforcement Group.

The power plant and recycling centre, which was owned by The Walled Garden Partnership, set up by the former owners of the landfill site at Alne, was designed to take advantage of energy produced by waste at the site. By capturing and recycling methane produced by the landfill site, the plant was set to generate enough electricity to power 2,000 homes for 20 years, via a connection to Husthwaite Sub Station.

Jason Pinder, director and head of machinery and business assets at Eddisons, said: “Lots such as this don’t come to market very often – it’s a rare chance to acquire such high end, late model generation plant. As this was an ongoing project there is some used equipment that has not even been commissioned.

“We are told that the trommel is the longest in the country and has been certified for use by SSE plc for use in power stations,” he added.

The seller believes the plant will be of significant interest to trade buyers who see medium and long term commercial opportunities for dismantling the assets and recommissioning elsewhere – either in the UK or abroad.
