FROM ACTION buses to public libraries, ACT government services also go on a break over the Christmas period.
Services such as public hospitals and walk-in centres will continue without disruption.
ACT Public Service offices will shut down from 5pm, Friday, December 23 and reopen on Tuesday, January 3 2017.
Holiday trading hours:
ACTION Buses are running a revised timetable from Monday, December 19 to Friday, January 6; including free Christmas Day bus service for December 25. Night Rider services, in partnership with UBER, will also be offered over the festive season.
Waste Management Services’ household bin collections and recycling drop off centres will operate as normal. All waste facilities will be closed on Sunday, December 25.
Domestic Violence Crisis Service is available for anyone affected by domestic or family violence. Access to the program is through the 24-hour crisis line – phone 6280 0900.
Alcohol and Drug Services are open on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day between 9am–1pm only. The drug and alcohol help line is available 24-hours, 7 days a week by calling 6207 9977.
Community Dental Clinics; Tuggeranong: Closed December 22 to January 13. Phillip: Closed December 24 to January 6. Civic: Closed December 16 to January 6. Gungahlin: Closed December 19 to January 13. Belconnen: Closed December 24 to December 29. A Dental Emergency Clinic will be available December 29 and December 30.
Mental Health Triage provides a 24-hour, 7 days a week telephone screening/assessment and referral service for ACT residents who have a mental illness, their families and their carers. Mental Health Triage will be operational every day of the Christmas and New Year period. Call Mental Health Triage on 1800 629354.
All Libraries ACT will be close at 2pm on Saturday, December 24. Libraries open with restrictive hours on December 29 and December 31. They will go back to normal operating hours from January 3.
Access Canberra Contact Centre (13 22 81) will operate as normal up until Friday, December 23 with extended operating hours on Saturday, December 24 until Tuesday, January 3.
Access Canberra Shopfronts shopfronts in Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong, Woden, the Dickson Motor Vehicle Registry, and the Civic Drivers Licence Service will be closed from Monday, December 26 to Wednesday, December 28.
Domestic Animal Shelter will close on Saturday, December 24, open with restricted hours on Wednesday, December 28 and Saturday, December 31, and resume normal service on Tuesday, January 3.
The National Arboretum will be closed on Christmas Day only.
Parks and Nature Reserves: Googong Foreshores and Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, including the visitor centre will be closed on Sunday, December 25. The Namadgi National Park visitor centre will also be closed Christmas Day, although the park will remain open to visitors.
