Tomorrow, Friday the 13th, there’ll be a special ghost tour of its art deco building hosted by Tim the Yowie Man, and a screening of the acclaimed psychological horror film ‘The Babadook’. This night of horrors starts at 7pm, with a screening of ‘The Babadook’ – the AACTA Award-winning debut from writer/director Jennifer Kent. It stars Essie Davis as a widow raising a son with behavioural problems and facing the increasingly strange occurrences taking place at her home. Then at 9:30pm, join Tim the Yowie Man and NFSA Education Coordinator Tracey Langner for a ghost tour of the NFSA’s headquarters. TOMORROW Friday, 13th March the less spooky  ‘GRANDEUR’ will bring together 30 local emerging artists spanning fashion, music, visual and performing arts, music and more for a one night extravaganza at the Belconnen Arts Centre. ‘GRANDEUR’ is the second of six emerging arts showcases to be run by RAW Canberra in 2015 and will be packed wall to wall with Canberra’s best emerging creatives. GUAN WEI is a treasure in both the Australian and Chinese contemporary art scenes. For almost 30 years he has been creating work that interweaves imagery from his Chinese heritage, his life experience in Australia and his personal mythology. ‘Guan Wei: A Great Southern World’ is on show at the Nancy Sever Gallery, 4/6 Kennedy Street, Kingston until 12 April. Gallery hours: 11am-6pm Wednesday to Sunday.

LITTLE Dove Theatre Art has made a new interactive live art work, which will be presented as part of ‘Sound and Fury’ at Art, Not Apart in the New Acton Nishi Gallery on Sat March 14, 8pm. ‘Evangeline’ explores the inner workings of the broken heart in this production featuring Australian performers Ruby Rowat, Erica Field, Noa Rotem, Peta Ward, Alicia Melonie Jones and Noa Rotem. Chenoeh Miller, director of Little Dove Theatre Art, lives in Canberra where she has directed the Canberra Multicultural Fringe, the MAMAs Music Awards and Sound and Fury for the past three years.

CANBERRA Potters’ artist-in-residence program has been offering residencies to national and international ceramicists since 2012. This year the line-up of residencies has been led by Japanese ceramic artist Hidemi Tokutake, who has been in Canberra since the middle of January. THE quirky poetic, musical group Lord Byron 5 is made up of Craig Dawson, Simone Dawson, Friar Nicholas Nicholby, Rita Woolhouse, Paul Dugdale, and Fred Pilcher. BELCONNEN Community Service’s (BCS’s) popular ukulele program is expanding with a new beginner class at 1pm on Thursdays starting today, March 12. Suitable for beginners over the age of 8. BCS also offers a continuing ukulele class for people who can play a few chords (C, F, G, Am, D). Participants will expand their skills in strumming and picking, learn new chords and explore different musical styles such as folk, reggae and pop. HAVE readers ever wondered whether Australian plants make good bonsai? Bonsai enthusiasts think they have. See examples at the National Arboretum Canberra. And also visit the exhibition of over 30 bonsai created by Canberra bonsai enthusiasts being held at the Australian National Botanic Gardens (Crosbie Morrison Building) from 14-15 March, 9:30 am – 4:30pm. Visitors will be able to attend demonstrations at 2:00pm each day. There are also guided walks through the Gardens, visiting full sized versions of species represented in the show from 12:30pm daily.
