H.E M.K Lokesh Ambassador of India to UAE to Inaugurate

Dubai, December 8, 2013: For the very first time in UAE “an exclusive event to showcase Indian Leather and Leather products is being organized by the Council for Leather Exports (under the Ministry of Commerce, Govt of India) and the Indian Embassy in UAE which is being hosted by the India Trade and Exhibition Centre m.e. on 9th and 10 December 2013 at the Le Meridian Hotel, Airport Road, Dubai. 

The exclusive buyer seller meet shall be inaugurated by HE Shri MK Lokesh in the presence of Mr. Ramesh Kumar IAS, Executive Director, and Council for Leather Exports and Mr. Sudesh Aggarwal, Chairman India Trade and Exhibition Centre m.e. This was stated by Ms. Sripriyaa Kumaria, Director General, ITEC m.e. in a press release today.

The 2 day event shall focus on showcasing India’s finest leather & leather products ranging from Finished Leather, Leather & Non-Leather Footwear, Footwear Components, Leather Garments, Leather Goods & Accessories, Leather Gloves, Saddlery and Harness and many more.

With representation from top 34 leather companies from all over India, this is an excellent opportunity for UAE businessmen to meet the best of the Indian Leather Industry and so far more than 190 brands / companies have registered to attend the event which includes major buyers and industry leaders such as EMKE Group, Apparel Group, Landmark namely Shoe Mart, Paris Gallery, Safeer Group, Choithram, Al Manama Group, Al Maya Group etc.

Although UAE accounts for only about (2.53%) of Indian exports of Leather and Leather products, given the opportunities UAE has to offer and with the exciting times to come with the announcement of UAE winning the EXPO 2020 bid, CLE India has made the right decision to foray into the UAE market which has a huge potential in Leather and luxury goods.

Indian Leather Industry trade figures has reached its highest point in the year 2012 – 13 which has been valued at approximately US$ 5 billion. India-UAE trade is today is close to US$75 billion making UAE, India’s  largest trading partner for the year 2012-13 and with Indian exports to UAE consisting of gems and jewelry, vegetables, fruit, spices, engineering goods, tea, meat and its preparations, rice, textiles and apparel and chemicals, lately the export of leather and leather products to UAE has seen substantial growth from US$ 76.23 million in 2007 to US$ 126.43 in 2012 growing at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate of 10.64%.

In her press release, Ms. Sripriyaa added that such industry specific, stand- alone events namely the CLE buyer seller meet will foster trade beyond traditional and customary goods between India and UAE. The event shall provide for a Structured Buyer Seller Meet and unparalleled Business/Networking Opportunities for Buyers and Sellers.
