ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, ASL/ENGLISH INTERPRETING

The University of North Florida, College of Education and Human Services, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-earning position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the B.S. and M.S. degree programs in ASL/English Interpreting, beginning August 2016. This position requires teaching in graduate and undergraduate programs using distance technologies, designing online, hybrid, and traditional courses, advising graduate students, engaging in empirical research, committing to institutional and community service, and revising-developing curricula in accordance with the standards of the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education.
The B.S. program at UNF, established in 2007, offers a hybrid 2+2 articulation model with 2-year interpreting degree programs around the state (AS to BS Concentration in General Practice) and a concentration in Community Interpreting for UNF students. The master’s degree program was implemented in January 2009 and has two concentrations: Interpreting Pedagogy (online plus 10-day summer sessions) and General Practitioner (online with one weekend per semester on campus). Both programs are philosophically devoted to service learning in the Deaf community, interpreting research, and international study opportunities. Summer teaching is available.
Nestled among more than 1,000 acres of trees, trails and lakes, the university is located in beautiful Jacksonville near beaches and the Florida School for the Deaf & the Blind in historic St. Augustine.

THE UNIVERSITY
UNF is a relatively young university – established in 1972 – and it is growing rapidly in size and stature. The University has expanded from a handful of buildings at the end of a dirt road to a thriving campus with five colleges in a bustling section of Jacksonville. Yet UNF retains its small-campus feel, helped by its location amid beautiful lakes and nature trails situated on 1,381 acres. THE COLLEGE
Our college offers a variety of programs to serve educational professionals in northeast Florida. We have undergraduate programs in fields such as special education, elementary education, and secondary education for people who are studying to be teachers. We have selected undergraduate programs for non-teaching professionals in areas such as sport management, deaf studies, and American Sign Language interpreting. We offer graduate programs in elementary and secondary education, special education, counseling, and educational leadership. The college offers a doctoral program in educational leadership.
As part of a regional university, with a comprehensive mission, we are closely connected with the schools and school districts in our region. The vision of the College of Education and Human Services is to educate professionals who will positively impact the lives of adults and children. In fulfilling this vision, we take our commitment to partnerships very seriously. Over seventy-five percent of our education graduates either take new positions in local schools or are already employed in the school districts. Over twenty-five percent of the newly hired teachers in Duval County, our largest service region, are graduates of our program. Our students complete extensive educational programs, including comprehensive clinical experiences in local schools and community agencies.
