This spring will host a special election for South Carolina’s first congressional district. At this stage, the race is being run by no less than twenty-two candidates. The primary elections will be held March 19 to see who will battle over the right to represent our state. The fight will continue on May 7. College of Charleston students are not wasting any time getting involved. Republicans Chip Limehouse and Teddy Turner along with Democrat Elizabeth Colbert-Busch are rallying support amongst the student body. Politicians have long been aware of how essential the student demographic is to their elections. Intern and volunteering opportunities are flooding the campus. Dylan Frick, secretary for the College Democrats, is one of the many students who has been following this election. “I believe this is an election the Democrats actually have a chance to win, and upset the state,” Frick said. Dylan has thrown his support behind Colbert-Busch due to her stance on alternative energy. “That immediately sparked my interest,” he said. The slogan for Colbert-Busch’s campaign is “This is Our Time,” and the College Democrats are taking that ideal to heart, seizing weekends to knock on a projected 2,000 doors in support for Colbert-Busch.
