Way to go Finn!
Students Take Action
As part of the recent PYP Exhibition, one student group chose to research the topic: orphans.
The research stage saw the group visit an orphanage and interview the director, which provided them with some valuable information. As part of the action component of exhibition, the group decided to collect new or used books in order to donate back to the orphanage - and they received bag loads.
This photo is of Kaylee and Alex delivering the books to the orphanage - caring in action.
Duathlon Achievement
Congratulations to Alex Dixon and Natalie Hill who competed in the second part of the metasprint series. They both took part in a Duathlon on Sunday, 24 March. The race consisted of a 1.5km run followed by a 10km bike ride and finishing with another 1.5km run.
Both Natalie and Alex had brilliant races and are looking forward to taking part in the triathlon.

Yearbook Advertising Opportunity
We are currently compiling our annual Yearbooks and would like to offer the CIS community the opportunity to advertise.
The yearbooks are a hard cover, A4 size, high quality publication. They are distributed to our entire school community (approx 3,000 copies) in June of each year. The yearbooks are a memento our families hold onto for years to come. All events that have taken place at CIS throughout the school year and the enjoyment the children have experienced are highlighted with professional photographs and articles.
CIS will produce two yearbooks, one for Tanjong Katong campus and one for Lakeside campus. Your company advertisement will be in both publications.
This is a highly advantageous opportunity to gain exposure and promote your business to our community.
If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete this form by Friday, 19 April 2013. High resolution artwork must be provided by Friday, 26 April 2013.
If you have any questions please contact Josephine at josephine.blunck@cis.edu.sg.

Elementary School
From Elementary School Principal, Rob Kiddell
Dear Parents,
Swimming: From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. From the inside looking out, you can't explain it. Author Unknown
Congratulations to our first Grade 3 classes who braved the heat and participated with both responsibility and joy in our swim programme. I was lucky enough to witness a magical moment at the swimming pool this week where a young fearful student acted as a risk-taker and bravely swam about the pool (of course, under the direct supervision of an instructor with a clipboard). The five swim instructors from Swim Concierge, the Physical Education team and the Grade 3 teachers ensured a safe and successful start to our swim programme. In August, all this joy will spread throughout the Lakeside Elementary School as every student from JK to Grade 3 will participate in the swim programme.
Last night, for those lucky enough to attend, was a special drama presentation by Ms. Carolyn Boras. How we teach drama, the importance of drama to the development of children and the unique nature of our drama programme were highlighted. Thanks to Ms. Boras for her energy to make this evening come alive.
A great first week back after "Spring Break". Have a very good weekend.
Warm regards,
Rob Kiddell
Elementary School Principal

Middle School
From Middle School Principal, Keith Bland
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the Lakeside Middle School community I am very pleased to welcome our new families.
It was wonderful to see students return on Tuesday and I am always very pleased with how quickly everyone settles back into the routine of school. Teachers had an extremely valuable day on Monday working on assessment moderation, curriculum planning and review in preparation for the IB Self Study.
Excursion Week is a very special part of our curriculum and I know students and teachers are looking forward to it. This year Grade 4 will be in Singapore, Grade 5 Palau Tinggi Island in Malaysia, Grade 6 Taman Negara in Malaysia, Grade 7 Telunas in Indonesia, Grade 8 Chiang Mai Thailand and also a small cross- grade group in Singapore. I know they will all have an exciting, rich learning and memory making experience.
I will be providing a daily update via a blog. I will contact the teachers on each Excursion Week twice a day and post a blog with a brief summary of the experiences the students have been involved in. It will be posted in the morning by approximately 10: 00am and then again in the late afternoon. The posting times will vary according to when groups return to the base camp after the day's activities. I will also use it for posting the approximate arrival times for groups returning by bus to the campus after Excursion Week. You can access the blog here.

Fighting for A Cause - Keriann "K.O" O'Rourke
On 20 April 2013, our very own CIS Middle School Drama teacher, will be stepping into a boxing ring in front of 1,300 spectators at Raffles City Convention Centre, to raise money for the Children's Surgical Centre in Cambodia. This hospital provides free rehabilitative surgery to Cambodians who cannot afford treatments.
Keriann has been training extensively for this event, but she also is working hard to raise funds for the hospital directly. She is bringing some of this fundraising to our school and invites you to join in her efforts to help change lives. Here are some of the ways that you can get involved if you choose.
Contribute to Keriann's Fight for a Cause by taking part in:
• Raffle Draw - Grand Prize: 3 Night Stay in the 4 bedroom James Bond Villa in Phuket, Thailand
