New ISTA Drama Festival

Any questions, please contact Mrs. Keriann O'Rourke at  korourke@cis.edu.sg.

New CIS TK - Trivia Night

Last Friday evening TK hosted it's first Trivia Night. With plenty of brain straining, arm bending and loads of laughs, a fun night was had by all. It came down to a nail biting finish with 2 rounds of tie-breaks, and finally a winner was decided. Last place was awarded with their wooden spoons as a reminder of what could have been.

We'd like to thank our sponsors for the evening for their generous prizes:

- Urban Fairways

- Underground Wines

- Rabbit Carrot Gun

- Peter's Butchery

- Fidgets

- Megazip

See you all again next year!

New TK U14 Boys Basketball vs LFS

Well Done to our TK U14 Boys Basketball team and Coach Lennan MacDonald for showing great tenacity and grit as they played LFS (Lycée Français de Singapour) last Tuesday.

Check out the highlights from the hotly contested game here!

New Fee Schedule - ECA Fee Range

We have had some queries from parents regarding the price range of ECAs ($2.00 to $3,000.00) that was indicated in the contract change document that accompanied the supplementary contract. Please note that the amount of $3,000.00 is incorrect. The actual fee range for ECAs, as it has been for the past 2 years, is $2.00 to $800.00 and it is optional.

It is an EduTrust requirement that we include the full spectrum of fees in the ECA programme. ECA registration is not compulsory. The fee range is a broad indication of ECA charges.

TKs Got Talent - Grades 5 to 9

Dear Parents,

Mark your calendars! It's time once again to showcase our TK stars. A talent show for students from Grades 5 to 9 will be held on Thursday, 18 April at 6:00pm in the school gym. This will give our students a chance to be risk-takers and to perform on stage!

A sign-up sheet has been posted in the A Block this week. Students have until 3:30pm on Tuesday, 9 April to sign up. Auditions will be held the week of 9 April.

Those children who have signed up will have a maximum of 2 to 3 minutes to perform on stage. Students are encouraged to use the next three weeks to decide on a performance, select appropriate accompaniment (i.e., music, props, etc.) and practice.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Talent Show Team

Calendar Update - 9 May 2013

It has come to our attention that 9 May 2013 was indicated as a non-school day on the semester dates page of the school website. Please note that there is school on this day. Student Led conferences will occur after school.

Withdrawal Deadline - 1 April 2013

All students who will be leaving CIS between 1 May and the 21 June (both dates inclusive) or not returning in the new school year must submit their notice of withdrawal by 1 April 2013. For the family deposit to be refunded in full (applicable to students enrolled prior to 21 December 2009 only), withdrawal notices must be received by the 1 April deadline. For full details regarding the refund policy, please visit this page.

Yearbook Advertising Opportunity
We are currently compiling our annual Yearbooks and would like to offer the CIS community the opportunity to advertise.

The yearbooks are a hard cover, A4 size, high quality publication. They are distributed to our entire school community (approx 3,000 copies) in June of each year. The yearbooks are a memento our families hold onto for years to come. All events that have taken place at CIS throughout the school year and the enjoyment the children have experienced are highlighted with professional photographs.

CIS will produce two yearbooks, one for Tanjong Katong campus and one for Lakeside campus. Your company advertisement will be in both publications.

This is a highly advantageous opportunity to gain exposure and promote your business to our community.

If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity, please complete this form by Friday, 19 April 2013. High resolution artwork must be provided by Friday, 26 April 2013.

If you have any questions please contact Josephine at josephine.blunck@cis.edu.sg
.

Yours sincerely,

TK News

From Tanjong Katong Principal, Paul Hoff
Dear Parents and Guardians,

I'm writing on Thursday this week as I will be on the bus on Friday heading back to Singapore from Malaysia with our Grade 5 and 6 students. We have been up near Rompin Town on Excursion Week. It was nice to get the chance to work with the teachers and students in a different setting this week.

Both the students and the teachers have had many learning opportunities this week. From patience as we waited for a late bus on Monday morning, to independence as we took care of ourselves and our things, to building confidence as we were introduced to many new activities, to having fun with new friends as we were put into mixed grade groups for activities. We were all witness to a lot of growing and maturing as the week progressed. There were a few bumps along the way for some students and they were able to work through them. Congratulations to all of the Grade 5 and 6 students for a successful week of growth and fun...we still have the bus ride home. I expect a lot of them will be sleeping.

I received an update from Mrs. Henderson this morning on the Grade 4 excursion trip to the Outward Bound facility on the East Coast. She said that sleeping on the floor of the cabins wasn't the most comfortable but that the students made it through and they were looking forward to another day of activities. Sleeping on the floor might be one of those bumps I referred to.

MYP Orientation Parent Meeting

On Tuesday, 16 April there will be an MYP Orientation Parent Meeting at 7:00pm in A204. This is an information and orientation meeting for parents of students not yet in the MYP. TK MYP students, teachers, and the International Baccalaureate Head of MYP for the Asia Pacific Region will be there to share with parents. It will be a time to get an overview of the MYP and how it is lived out here at TK. Please plan to attend if you have children that will be moving into the MYP in the next couple of years. Register here.

TK's Got Talent
These talent nights will be held on Wednesday, 17 April for our junior children (Grades 2, 3,and 4), and Thursday, 18 April our older children (Grade 5 and up). These are evenings not to be missed. I am always amazed at the many talents our students share with us and the confidence they bring to the stage. The upcoming two weeks away from the classroom will be a great time to practice and polish performances.

MYP Excursion week will take place 22 - 26 April.

As we head into our March/April break I wish you a relaxed and safe time with family and friends.

Warm regards,

Paul Hoff
Tanjong Katong Principal

ESPZEN Adult Football Training
Dear Sports Enthusiasts,

ESPZEN is the leading football organisation in Singapore, with over 4,000 players under management and 180 teams. Besides running amateur football / futsal leagues, ESPZEN also manages a pool of highly experienced international coaches responsible for running ESPZEN Soccer School.

Based on demand, ESPZEN International qualified Coaches will be launching a dedicated weekly training for adult football players commencing Tuesday, 9 April 2013. Note this training will not include shuttles, or running laps, it is 100% football training using Small Sided games. Some games require players to work on passing skills in competitive scenarios, while others are more tactically focused. Players will improve core skills through the sheer number of touches that each game guarantees. At the same time players will improve their  "soccer vision" - the ability to see spaces on the pitch - as each game is played in realistic game conditions.

Free Training on Tuesday, 9 April 2013

To celebrate the launch of adult program - the first session will be free of charge. Come down with your team mates to experience our training session at absolutely no cost. Please register yourself and team mates to attend the free trial by emailing soccerschool@espzen.com. Pre-registration is compulsory.
