Sidney McCall, Circle School of the Arts and CCS senior, has been awarded the John and Charles Wesley Heritage Scholarship at North Carolina Wesleyan College.  The 4-year scholarship includes the complete cost of tuition, room, board, and books and is valued at over $145,000.  In addition to the John and Charles Wesley Heritage Scholarship the Theatre Department at NCWC will be adding to her scholarship package.

According to Sidney’s mom, Sandra McCall, “Sidney was really focused on finding the right fit and, with a great deal of research and also fine tuning exactly what she was looking for on college sites, we learned of North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Circle has given her so much and she wanted that same experience in college…teachers that take time to know her and share their faith and encourage her to grow spiritually and mentally. She wanted a Theatre experience that would nurture her individual interest and provide her with a range of training and opportunities.”

In addition to North Carolina Wesleyan, Sidney was also awarded a full scholarship, room and board at Alabama State University and a a scholarship for full tuition to attend Dillard University in New Orleans.

Sidney will be part of Circle’s first Circle School of the Arts graduating class, graduating in May of 2014 with an Arts Honor Diploma.  During her time at Circle, she has participated in numerous theatrical productions including Fairy Tale Courtroom; Bye, Bye Birdie; Rogue of The Railway; The Music Man; Peter Pan; Singin’ In the Rain; Kilroy Was Here; Me and My Girl; and The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood.  In addition to her acting credits, Sidney was Circle School of the Arts first student director, directing and choreographing a cast of seven of her peers in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown opening to wave reviews.  As part of CSA mentoring, Sidney has been shadowing Mrs. Saunders in the role of producer for both The Marvelous Wonderettes and Hello, Dolly!

We are extremely proud of Sidney’s accomplishment and her commitment to artistic growth, leadership, and academics.
