In an interview with Cinespeaks, the actor speaks on the film and opens up about his upcoming projects. The ‘Munnabhai’ famed actor also spills the beans on the much awaited Munnabhai Franchisee.Read on to know…

Q: Tell us something about your character in this film.
Arshad: My role is of a person who is completely different. There was a dark side of me in the past and in the present the characterization is different. It’s two diametrically opposite situations in the past and present. The role is quite serious, but the way the screenplay and the story unfolds makes the character more of fun and humor. But,it’s a serious role. What you see on the screen in me,there’s also some other part too.

Q: What’s your take on offbeat films?
Arshad: I like realistic and commercial films like Golmaal,Ishqiya,Jolly LLB.I like films which are entertaining and have good emotions in them.I don’t like films which are slow-paced and bore you somehow.I once saw a film ‘Birdman’ and was out of the box. Many pseudo-intellectual people often made good remarks but I don’t like that film.

Q: When you sign a particular film, what matters to you the most-script or director?
Arshad: Script. Most definitely it has to be script.I have majorly worked with new directors in my films. If you see I have done around 55-60 films and maximum of these films are with debutante directors. What I do is I look into the person and study him because it gives me a deeper understanding of the person. As far as the script is concerned,it is the vision of the director and that’s how it is.I really like directors like Anurag Basu,Imtiaz Ali,but every director has their own choices. As an actor I can accept only what is being offered to me and not run behind roles.

Q: How was your experience working with Amit and Aditi?
Arshad: Aditi is a fab actor and so is Amit. They are really talented actors and I am very fond of them. They are like a family to me.I once saw Aditi in an ad film and I was thrilled to see her.Amit is grounded and he is a very nice guy. Both the actors are natural and sincere.

Q: In today’s era people believes that if an actor has a Godfather backing them, its quite a sort of an added advantage. What’s your take on this?
Arshad: Yes!Having a strong personality and influence backing an actor is definitely an added advantage for his career. If an actor has a solid-support system, and even his film’s don’t fare well at the box-office,he still survives in the industry despite him delivering back-to-back flops. But for an actor like me,if I give a one flop and maybe that’s probably the end.But I feel to survive and keep going an actor should have good approach towards life and work. Many actors like Akshay Kumar,Suniel Shetty,Ajay Devgn are surviving because of their approach towards work. They are all hardworking, sincere, versatile and natural. All these qualities actually define an actor. You can’t be a troublesome in the industry.

Q: You have once again teamed up with Shubash Kapoor. How was your experience filming Guddu Rangeela?
Arshad: I am glad and really feel lucky that I know a person like him.I am happy that we have something in common and are alike. The way he writes the script and his approach towards filmmaking is wonderful.Filming Guddu Rangeela was yet another jovial experience and working with him.

Q: When can we see you as a director in the future? Any plans around the corner?
Arshad: 100%!I will definitely venture into direction ahead. As of now,I am quite busy with the films. In future,I will take some time and make films.

Q: Biopic is a trend now in our industry.Which actor would you love to essay and portray on screen?
Arshad: I think SANJAY DUTT.He has a colorful life and a biopic on him would definitely be interesting.Other than that SALMAN KHAN.I would love to portray him on-screen.Salman has a great story to tell.

Q: Tell us something about your upcoming projects.
Arshad: After Guddu Rangeela, there’s Prakash Jha’s Fraud Saiyaan where I am working with Pakistani Actress Sara Loren.Next Up,I also have Legend Of Michael Mishra comes up.

Q: Munnabhai franchisee is quite in the air now. Are there any plans of you and Sanjay Dutt coming together once more?
Arshad: Yes Sure! It’s still in the scripting stage. When Sanju comes back,we probably may start working on the project. We are waiting for him to come and then go ahead with the plans.
