Imagine spending days reliving the same day with all the fortunate and unfortunate things that took place but in a loop. Sounds like fun but not till breaks the mind by squeezing every ounce of sanity left to make sense of the present while reliving over and over again.
Edge of Tomorrow based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, tells of an army officer caught in a time loop in a bizarre circumstances during the war with an alien race. Tom Cruise plays army officer, Major William Cage whom lacks the talent in an active battlefield would inevitably be mankind’s only hope to survive the onslaught of untold and Emily Blunt plays Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski whom manages to slain those aliens which humanity idolise her based on the dossier of the alien massacre.

In a distant future, an alien race nicknamed "Mimics" for their ability to mimic and respond to Earth military combat strategies with great efficiency, thus making them nearly unbeatable as they had invaded Earth starting from Germany and overtaken almost the entirety of Western Europe. Though after various losses, hope was found for humankind in the form of the creation of combat "jackets", along with the battle victories of Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski at Verdun, who becomes a symbol for the war effort.

Seeing a potential victory at hand, a final surprise assault is planned on the beaches of west coast of France,which soldiers are dropped from their base across the English Channel at Heathrow Airport. As success is expected, General Brigham orders Major William Cage to be embedded at the front with a camera crew. Cage whom has no combat experience and unfamiliarity with weapons, tries to blackmail the General and reasoning that his expertise lies in advertising which apparently falls on deaf ears as he is arrested, knocked out and stripped of his rank, only to awaken at the Military base as he is forcibly taken to J Squad by the no nonsense Sergeant Farrell. Upon arriving at the beach, Cage is overwhelmed and witnesses Vrataski's death, but he manages to detonate a bomb, killing himself and an unusual-looking Mimic which starts his unusual loop of the very same day, over and over again.

After reliving the same day over again, it slowly begins to take a toll on him which pushes him to the limit and the question of whether can humanity be truly saved or doomed for apocalypse. He would have to rally all the support he get and muster enough courage to see it through in the perseveration of human life and towards the future.
Well here we are..
In all honesty, I was taken aback by the movie and it is not nearly as bleak as the trailers had suggested nor it is a comedy either. The movie is an action-packed, special effects driven Sci-Fi blockbuster about battling an alien invasion (And that what the trailers got right), albeit one with a funny bone and great characters. The casting is marvelous, with Bill Paxton and Brendon Gleeson whom are always a welcome addition to any movie, and while they are great in character wise along with the gorgeous Emily Blunt which would seems that no matter what she does, she always comes across as genuine and the real deal. Emily Blunt, portraying the character Rita Vrataski as a tough, seasoned soldier other soldiers refer to as "full metal bitch" (You will get why) - with just the right touch of vulnerability to make her that much more believable. As for the Sci-Fi spectacle that the trailers promised, the film presents itself equally if not, more. The battle scenes are beautifully orchestrated (Surreal and definitely not the Transformer-style blur which is hard on audience), and there are moments when the intensity of the fighting recalls the landing on Omaha Beach in 'Saving Private Ryan' - without the gore, obviously (after all, this is PG-13). The design of the aliens and the production design in general is incredibly well done.
The Battle
Edge of Tomorrow is one of the most inventive (adapted) scripts for an original (mega-budget) film in a long time and one of Tom Cruise’s best performance we've seen in years since his Post Maverick-Hunt Era, the film will have you glued to the seat though fans from the manga should take it lightly as the climatic element is somewhat revised for the general viewing. It's not overly melancholy or gloomy despite the backdrop of an alien invasion. A perfect fit for a summer blockbuster release along with X-Men: Days of Future Past. So wait no further and catch the movie in the cinema near you today.
